Please contact your state legislators to object to SB169 / HB372 Hospitals - Emergency Pregnancy-Related Medical Conditions - Procedures. Pro-choice and pro-life people should be able to stand together against coercion against hospitals and medical providers. In addition, the bill mentions pregnancy termination but makes no mention of offering abortion pill reversal as an option.

Democrats have a choice: defend affordable care or blow up the deal that made it possible.

I joined 20 attorneys general urging Congress to reject a proposal that would condition the extension of Enhanced Premium Tax Credits under the Affordable Care Act (ACA) on the imposition of unlawful restrictions on abortion coverage by ACA plans. Suggest this instead of the remainder – Abortion is essential health care and Maryland will continue to defend it.

It is unlawful, costly, and harms access to essential reproductive care. Congress should extend these health care tax credits without using them to limit coverage states legally provide.

It is important to collect and publish abortion data, and Maryland should resume submitting abortion data to the CDC, as it used to do.

Today pro-life activists met at a tavern in Rockville, Maryland to celebrate the 50th anniversary of the August 2, 1975 Sigma Seven sit-in at the now closed Sigma abortion facility, which had been a group of all women, two with babies in arms. Several of the women spoke at the anniversary event, and area activists from several pro-life groups attended. DFL of MD donated copies of the Pro-Life Democrat book authored by Maryland activist John Cavanaugh-O'Keefe. Kudos to activist Elise Ketch for organizing this anniversary event.

This article speaks of a rightward shift in the post-Dobbs anti-abortion movement. What it does not mention are groups like Democrats for Life of America (DFLA), the Progressive Anti-Abortion Uprising (PAAU), Feminists for Life of America (FFLA), Secular Pro-life, or similar groups that are hardly right-wing. Please, more balance.

After Dobbs, fetal personhood has become the anti-abortion movement’s new objective.

A 2023 report available on NIH's PubMed, "The Effects of Abortion Decision Rightness and Decision Type on Women's Satisfaction and Mental Health," notes that 60% of the women reported that they would have preferred to give birth if they had received more support from others or had more financial security.

Background A case series report based on the Turnaway Study has previously concluded that 99% of women with a history of abortion will continue to affirm satisfaction with their decisions to abort. Those findings have been called into question due to a low participation rate (31%) and reliance on a....

Data matters. DFL of Maryland supports the HB1357 / SB965 Public Health - Reproductive Health Care Data Report bills. Maryland has not reported abortion data to the CDC since 2006. At least at the state level, we should support collection of data on the costs of pregnancy care, birth, postpartum care, and abortion, as we remind Maryland legislators that DFLA supports a Make Birth Free initiative. Tell your reps in the Maryland General Assembly, or submit testimony! House Hearing is Feb. 27th and Senate Hearing is March 6th.

Data collection will support informed and transparent care, which women deserve
