Naval Medical Leader and Professional Development Command recently held its Family Fun Day.

It was an opportunity for the command to come together to share food, fun and laughs while building camaraderie and unit cohesion.

Several events were held such as tug-of-war , a relay race and face painting.

On 1 August, former naval officer Gustavus Fox receives the appointment as the nation’s first Assistant Secretary of the Navy.

July 17, 1920, the historic U.S. Navy hospital ship Relief (Hospital Ship No.1)—the very first vessel designed and built from the keel up specifically as a Navy hospital ship—was officially designated with the hull classification AH-1.

Happy Monday! A friendly reminder that due to major construction, trains on the Metro Red Line will not run between North Bethesda and Friendship Heights until September 6. Stations that are temporarily closed include Grosvenor-Strathmore, Medical Center, and Bethesda. Free shuttle buses will replace train service and run every 5-8 minutes during Metro Rail operating hours. Please plan accordingly for added time to your commute. Congratulations to Lieutenant Commander Tanniesha Watts, Course Director, Plans, Operations, & Medical Intelligence (POMI) Course, Professional Development Directorate, who is retiring after 27 years of service in the Navy.

She began her naval career on July 7, 1999 as an enlisted Sailor, advanced to the rank of Chief Petty Officer (E-7), and then commissioned as a Medical Service Corps Officer reaching the rank of Lieutenant Commander (O-4). As a commissioned officer who was prior enlisted, Lt. Cmdr. Watts has earned the title of mustang. She will be retiring later this year on November 1.

Lt. Cmdr. Watts received the Navy & Marine Corps Commendation Medal as an end of tour award in recognition of all her hard work and accomplishments while stationed at NMLPDC. Bravo Zulu and enjoy your retirement! ⚓🎉
