Stronger Together at the 62nd Annual AVCP Convention

For two days, Tribal leaders, delegates, Elders, partners, and community members came together to conduct the business of our region, share knowledge, celebrate culture, and shape the future of the Yukon-Kuskokwim Delta.

From the Executive Board's preparation meeting and opening purification ceremony led by Traditional Chief Nels Alexie and Cultural Traditional Knowledge Liaison John McIntyre, to inspiring presentations from keynote speakers Major General Torrence W. Saxe and Bureau of Indian Affairs Alaska Regional Director Jolene John, the 62nd Annual AVCP Convention was filled with meaningful discussions, cultural pride, and strong leadership.

Delegates reached quorum, conducted official business, recognized outstanding Tribal members, heard from state and regional leaders, and elected a new AVCP Chairman, Jonathan Samuelson of Georgetown. Congratulations, Jonathan!

Quyana to the delegates who traveled from across our region, the speakers and guests who shared their expertise, the Veterans of Foreign Wars members who presented the colors, Ayaprun Elitnaurvik for sharing Yuraq, the AVCP staff who worked behind the scenes, and everyone who helped make this convention a success. Together, we accomplished important work for our Tribes and communities.

Stay tuned for more photos and convention highlights in the coming weeks!
