**MEDIA RELEASE**
Attached is the official update regarding yesterday’s police activity near W. South Street and Ash Street.
Over the past few weeks, the Bethel Police Department received multiple tips about a male fugitive believed to be staying in the apartment area. Officers carefully investigated the information and were able to confirm the individual’s identity. Several attempts were made to locate him, but he was not found at those times.
Yesterday afternoon, we received another tip that he was at the apartments. Officers conducted surveillance of the building, and at approximately 4:30 p.m., the individual was seen outside. When officers approached to make an arrest, he ran back inside an apartment and refused to come out.
The safety of our residents, officers, and everyone involved is always our top priority. Out of an abundance of caution, the building and surrounding area were evacuated, and assistance was requested from the Clermont County Sheriff's Office SWAT Team.
After several hours, the individual surrendered peacefully and was taken into custody without further incident.
We would like to extend our sincere thanks to the Clermont County Sheriff , Clermont Co SWAT Team, the Williamsburg Police Department Ohio the New Richmond Police, the Pierce Township Ohio Police Department the Clermont County Communications Center, and the Clermont County Dog Warden for their teamwork and support in helping bring this situation to a safe resolution.
Finally, we want to thank the Bethel community. Your cooperation, tips, videos, patience during the evacuation, and even bringing water to our officers and deputies made a meaningful difference. We are grateful to serve such a supportive and caring community.
Respectfully,
Chief Chad R. Essert
