Today, the Soldiers, families, and friends of the 193rd Regional Training Institute gathered to recognize and celebrate the remarkable career of First Sergeant Shawn Baum during his final official formation.

After more than 25 years of dedicated military service, 1SG Baum was honored for his unwavering commitment to the Delaware Army National Guard, the Soldiers he led, and the communities he served. Throughout his career, he embodied selfless service, professionalism, and leadership, leaving a lasting impact on generations of Soldiers.

As part of the ceremony, 1SG Baum was inducted into the prestigious Order of the Griffin, one of Delawareโ€™s highest military honors. The Order of the Griffin recognizes those who have served the Delaware Army National Guard with honor, integrity, and distinguished service.

The ceremony also recognized the sacrifices and support of the Baum family. Shannon Baum received the Spousal Appreciation Award and Army Spouse Medal for her steadfast dedication throughout 1SG Baumโ€™s military career, while Camryn and Braden were presented with Army Military Child Medals in recognition of their support and resilience as members of a military family. โค๏ธ๐Ÿ‡บ๐Ÿ‡ธ

The 193rd RTI extends its deepest gratitude to 1SG Baum and his family for their years of service, sacrifice, and commitment to our Soldiers and our nation.

Today, the 193rd Regional Training Institute conducted a Change of Responsibility Ceremony, officially passing the responsibility of the Regiment from First Sergeant Shawn Baum to First Sergeant Randy McFarland.

The Change of Responsibility is a time-honored Army tradition that symbolizes the transfer of authority, accountability, and trust between senior enlisted leaders. Through the passing of the NCO Sword, the Regiment recognized the dedicated service and leadership of 1SG Baum while welcoming 1SG McFarland as the newest First Sergeant of the 193rd RTI. โš”๏ธ

Over the past several years, 1SG Baum has served the Soldiers and cadre of the 193rd RTI with professionalism, dedication, and an unwavering commitment to excellence. His leadership has helped shape the Regiment and ensure the continued success of our training mission. ๐Ÿ‡บ๐Ÿ‡ธ

Please join us in congratulating the newest members of the 193rd Regiment (RTI) instructional team on successfully graduating from the Common Faculty Development - Instructor Course (CFD-IC)!

CFD-IC is a rigorous 80-hour, 10-day U.S. Army TRADOC certification course designed to develop skilled instructors, trainers, and facilitators. Through experiential learning, practical teaching exercises, and modern classroom management techniques, graduates gain the knowledge and confidence needed to effectively educate and mentor adult learners.

Their successful completion of this course demonstrates a commitment to excellence, professionalism, and the development of future Soldiers and leaders across our force.

We are proud to welcome these newly certified instructors to the 193rd RTI team and look forward to the knowledge, experience, and leadership they will bring to our classrooms.

๐Ÿงญ Future Leaders in Motion | OCS Preparation Underway ๐Ÿช–

Officer Candidates from Region B โ€” DEARNG, MDARNG, and DCARNG โ€” recently converged at Fair Hill Natural Resources Management Area in Elkton, Maryland, for a demanding and purpose-driven training weekend.

Over two days, these future leaders:
โœ”๏ธ Sharpened their tactical proficiency through intensive land navigation
โœ”๏ธ Pushed their endurance during a challenging 6-mile ruck march

This joint training event plays a vital role in building confidence, resilience, and readiness as they prepare to take on the next milestone โ€” OCS Phase 1 kicking off next month.

The foundation is being set. The standard is high. The journey is just beginning.

๐ŸŽ‰ Promotion Spotlight ๐ŸŽ‰

Please join us in congratulating SFC Erika Smith on her promotion to Master Sergeant (MSG)! ๐Ÿ‡บ๐Ÿ‡ธ

MSG Smith began her military career in 1991 with the Delaware Army National Guard as a Pharmacy Specialist with the 116th MASH. As her unit evolved into the Medical Dental Detachment, she transitioned into the 91C (now 68W Combat Medic) MOS.

In 2007, she deployed to Iraq with the 153rd MP Company as a Combat Medic, demonstrating unwavering dedication and service. After a brief break in service, she returned to the DEARNG in 2016, changing career paths to become a 92G (Culinary Specialist).

At the 193rd Regiment (RTI), MSG Smith has played a vital role in supporting and developing Soldiers across the Delaware National Guard. She currently serves as the Culinary Management NCO, where her impact is felt daily.

MSG Smith is married to (Retired) 1SG Brian Smith, and together they have built a proud military family, with two of their eight children serving in the DEARNG. They are also proud grandparents of eight.

Her promotion is a testament to decades of commitment, resilience, and leadership.
