Bethany Beach Volunteer Fire Company

The Bethany Beach Volunteer Fire Company was established in 1948. Our fire department is also equipped with many programs.

We are a combination department that provides Fire/EMS coverage to over 15 miles of beach front, as well as communities and assisting neighboring companies. We have a live in program, ride along program, EMS member, and duty crew program. You can be any of these, just inquire with-in.

Bethany Beach Fire Company Assists with Fire Prevention at Lord Baltimore School

Bethany Beach Fire Company members joined Millville Fire Company today for its annual fire prevention program at Lord Baltimore School.

The firefighters worked together to help students learn about fire safety and the important role first responders play in keeping the community safe. The annual visit gives students an opportunity to connect with local firefighters and build awareness of how to stay safe at home and at school.

Bethany Beach Fire Company appreciates the opportunity to work alongside Millville Fire Company and take part in this important community education effort. Fire prevention programs help reinforce safety lessons and encourage children to make smart decisions in an emergency.

Bethany Beach Members Assist Millville with a Garage Fire in Ocean View

Around 1300 hours today, Bethany Beach Fire Company units were participating with Millville Fire Company in a fire prevention program at Lord Baltimore Elementary School when Millville units were dispatched to a reported garage fire on Daisy Avenue in Ocean View.

Firefighters arrived to find a two-story garage with fire on the first floor extending to the second floor. Crews quickly began extinguishing the fire and protecting nearby exposures.

Two firefighters were injured while operating at the scene. Both were treated at South Coastal Hospital and released.

The Delaware State Fire Marshal’s Office is investigating the cause of the fire.

Bethany Beach Fire Company Responds to Busy Weekend of Storm-Related Calls

Bethany Beach Fire Company members stayed busy this past weekend as a nor’easter brought challenging conditions to the area. Members responded to reports of downed power lines, helped rescue occupants trapped in vehicles by floodwaters, and handled several automatic fire alarms.

These incidents are a reminder to use caution during severe weather and to avoid flooded roads.

Public Safety Reminder: Turn Around, Don’t Drown

Never drive through floodwater. It can be deeper or faster-moving than it appears, and the road beneath it may be damaged or washed out. Do not drive around barricades. Turn around and find another route.

Please use caution and look out for one another during severe weather.

Bethany Beach Firefighters Participate in Realistic Training

Members of the Bethany Beach Fire Company recently joined the Millville Volunteer Fire Company for valuable hands-on training in a house scheduled for demolition.

Crews practiced roof operations and vertical ventilation—critical firefighting skills that can be difficult to replicate using traditional training props. Working in an actual structure provided firefighters with a realistic environment to sharpen their techniques, improve coordination, and reinforce safe operating practices.

Thank you to the Millville Volunteer Fire Company for allowing us to participate in this valuable training opportunity. Training alongside our mutual-aid partners strengthens teamwork and better prepares us to serve and protect our communities when an emergency occurs.

🇺🇸 Bethany Beach Fire Company Honors September 11

Today, members of the Bethany Beach Fire Company participated in several 9/11 remembrance events throughout the area, including the ceremony at the VFW in Ocean View, the Seas the Day Memorial and Parade in Bethany Beach, and the 9/11 Memorial in Ocean City.

Each event provided an opportunity to stand alongside our neighbors and fellow first responders as we honored the lives lost on September 11, 2001. We also remembered the courage and sacrifice of the first responders, military personnel, and countless others whose lives were forever changed by the events of that day.

Twenty-five years later, we remain united in our promise:

Bethany Beach Fire Company Supports Summer Concert Series

Throughout the summer, the Bethany Beach Fire Company provided a dedicated ambulance and emergency medical personnel at the Bethany Beach Bandstand during music events expected to draw large crowds. This standby coverage allowed our crews to provide a rapid response to any medical emergency that arose during the festivities.

While attending these events, our members also had the opportunity to connect with residents and visitors. Crews welcomed the public to tour the ambulance, view the lifesaving equipment carried onboard, and learn how these tools are used during medical emergencies.

These interactions allowed our members to promote fire and injury prevention, answer questions, and help the community better understand the emergency medical services we provide. The Bethany Beach Fire Company is proud to support local events while strengthening our relationship with the community we are honored to serve.

EARLY-MORNING RESIDENTIAL FIRE IN GULLS NEST

At approximately 3:00 a.m. on Friday, September 4, 2026, during an early-morning thunderstorm, the Bethany Beach Volunteer Fire Company was dispatched for an automatic fire alarm in the 29000 block of Surfside Drive in the Gulls Nest community.

First-arriving units found a four-story, single-family residence with no smoke or fire visible from the exterior. Crews completed a 360-degree assessment, searched for a Knox Box, and requested a property representative. After the first-arriving officer detected an odor of smoke, and with no Knox Box or representative available, crews forced entry to investigate.

As firefighters advanced through the residence, they encountered a significant smoke condition on the fourth floor. Command upgraded the incident to a working residential fire, bringing mutual-aid assistance from the Millville, Roxana, Ocean City, and Frankford fire companies.

Crews located fire concealed within the walls and ceiling of the fourth floor. Due to the home’s construction and the difficulty accessing the concealed fire, additional assistance was requested from the Selbyville and Dagsboro fire companies.

Firefighters opened the affected walls and ceiling, reached the concealed fire, and extinguished it. Crews operated for approximately two hours before bringing the incident under control.

Sussex County Medic 105 remained on scene to provide medical support. Station 83 provided standby coverage at Station 70, ensuring continued emergency coverage throughout the district.

The Delaware State Fire Marshal’s Office is investigating the origin and cause of the fire.

The Bethany Beach Volunteer Fire Company thanks all responding mutual-aid companies and agencies for their assistance.

Bethany Beach Fire Company Members Attend Elite Truck Company Training

On Sunday, August 23, four members of the Bethany Beach Volunteer Fire Company traveled to Indianapolis to attend an intensive truck company operations course at the Fire Department Training Network (FDTN).

FDTN is recognized for providing some of the most demanding and realistic fire service training in the United States. Throughout the course, our members will strengthen their knowledge, sharpen their skills, and participate in challenging hands-on training designed to prepare firefighters for complex emergency situations.

The Bethany Beach Volunteer Fire Company proudly recognizes these members for their dedication to continuing their fire service education. Their willingness to invest their time and effort reflects their strong commitment to professional development and to providing the highest level of service to the community we proudly serve.
