The Bethany Beach Police would like to make our residents and visitors aware of flooding due to the current nor’easter. Currently, tide levels are about 2 feet, expected to reach 3 feet by next high tide scheduled for 7:13PM. Below is a map that shows flood water inundation at 2 feet and 3 feet. BBPD encourages operators to refrain from driving through these waters. However, if you must do so, please use extreme caution as it is difficult to judge the depth of the water. Please refrain from driving around erected barricades.

Note: The maps below show the portions of Bethany Beach that are at or below the indicated elevations. This does not necessarily indicate that those areas are flooded, but that they cannot drain and have a high potential for flooding until the tides recedes.

We finally caught our breath! 🥵

We’re excited to welcome our newest intern, Emily!

Emily is a senior at Sussex Technical High School, where she is pursuing a pathway in Criminal Justice. During her internship with us, she’ll have the opportunity to shadow full-time officers, attend court sessions, participate in ride-alongs, and assist with administrative duties—all while gaining valuable insight into the day-to-day operations of law enforcement.

A lifelong Sussex County, Delaware, resident, Emily is already familiar with Bethany Beach. She spent her summer working at Mango's Bethany Beach, making this community a familiar place for her.

We’re proud to be part of Emily’s educational journey and look forward to mentoring her as she explores a future in law enforcement. If you see Emily around Town with one of our officers, be sure to say hello and welcome her to the team!

The Bethany Beach Police Department is proud to announce the launch of its new Drone Program, implemented in the Summer of 2026.

Four department members have achieved certification as FAA Remote Pilots after completing rigorous aeronautical testing, tactical training, and complex flight maneuvering certifications. The introduction of Unmanned Aircraft Systems (UAS) introduces a crucial aerial vantage point to daily patrol operations, significantly elevating the department's operational capabilities.

The UAS unit will serve as a multi-purpose resource supporting a wide array of public safety initiatives, including:

- Real-Time Scene Intelligence & Tactical Overwatch

- Thermal Search & Rescue Operations

- Crash Reconstruction & Scene Documentation

- Perimeter Sweeps & Special Event Monitoring

We look forward to utilizing this modern technology to enhance public safety across Bethany Beach!
