This past week, we honored and celebrated the retirement of Deputy Chief Michael Lyons after 26 years of dedicated service to the Berwyn Fire Department.

Throughout his career, Deputy Chief Lyons has demonstrated unwavering commitment, leadership, and professionalism while serving the residents of Berwyn.

Thank you for your years of sacrifice, hard work, and dedication to the fire service. Wishing you a long, healthy, and well-deserved retirement filled with family, happiness, and new adventures.

🚑✨ New Addition Coming Soon to the BFD! ✨🚑

The Berwyn Fire Department is proud to announce the purchase of a new front-line ambulance, made possible through state grant funding. This new addition will enhance our ability to provide the highest quality emergency medical care and continue serving our community with excellence.

We would like to extend a special thank you to Senator Javier Cervantes for not only championing our fire department, but also for taking the time to personally check out our newest addition before it goes into service.

We look forward to putting this ambulance on the streets very soon. Stay tuned! 🚑

🚒🤝🚓 Training Together to Keep Our Community Safe 🚓🤝🚒

We recently participated in a joint training alongside the Berwyn Police Department and Morton West administrative staff from J. Sterling Morton High School District 201 to prepare for an active shooter scenario.

This important training, led by the Illinois Fire Service Institute , focused on coordination, communication, and rapid response in high-stress situations. By working together, our agencies are strengthening our ability to protect students, staff, and the entire City of Berwyn in the event of an emergency.

We are grateful for the opportunity to train with our partners and remain committed to continuous learning and preparedness.

Your safety is always our top priority. 👨‍🚒👮‍♂️

El Departamento de Bomberos de Berwyn participó recientemente en un entrenamiento conjunto junto con el Departamento de Policía de Berwyn y el personal administrativo de Morton West High School para prepararse ante una situación de tirador activo.

Este importante entrenamiento, impartido por el Instituto de Servicios de Incendios de Illinois, se enfocó en la coordinación, la comunicación y la respuesta rápida en situaciones de alto estrés. Due to a recent structure fire in February, your Berwyn firefighters will be visiting the 1300 block of Wesley Ave starting at 9 AM this Sunday, March 8th as part of our Be Alarmed! Smoke Detector Program in conjunction with the Illinois Fire Safety Alliance.

We’ll be stopping by single-family homes to:

✅ Check smoke detectors
✅ Share important fire safety tips
✅ Provide up to 3 FREE smoke detectors (if needed)

Estaremos visitando casas unifamiliares para:

We would like to extend a sincere thank you to all the amazing students, dedicated faculty, and wonderful chaperones from Berwyn North School District 98 for visiting our 16th Street Fire Station!

We truly enjoyed welcoming you, showing you around the station, and sharing a closer look at our apparatus, equipment, and daily operations. Your curiosity, great questions, and enthusiasm made the visit a pleasure for our firefighters.

Opportunities like this allow us to connect with our community, promote fire safety, and hopefully inspire some future firefighters along the way!

Nos gustaría extender un sincero agradecimiento a todos los increíbles estudiantes, al dedicado personal docente y a los maravillosos acompañantes del Distrito Escolar 98 de Berwyn North por visitar nuestra Estación de Bomberos de la Calle 16.

The City of Berwyn will be testing its audible emergency siren today.

We want to let all residents know that this is only a test and there is no emergency at this time. The testing should begin around 1130am and will last about 3 hours, so please don’t be alarmed 😉
