But the reason for the trip still feels familiar. Local students traveled to Washington, D.C. to see the places they had learned about in scho...

MUNICIPAL
Officer Milton Fogg Honored with 2025-2026 Town Report Dedication
Published on May 21, 2026

Officer Fogg Ber Dy
Officer Milton Fogg, a longtime Berwick Police Department officer and School Resource Officer at MSAD60, has been honored with the dedication of the Town of Berwick’s 2025-2026 Annual Report.

The dedication was announced during a recent Select Board meeting, where Select Board Chair Mike Laterreur called Fogg to the podium and read the inscription aloud. Fogg had been brought to the meeting by Police Chief Tim Towne under the impression that he was there for another matter, making the announcement a surprise.

Each year, the Town Report is dedicated to someone whose service has made a lasting impact on Berwick.

“This town report is proudly dedicated to Officer Milton Fogg, a respected School Resource Officer and a trusted presence in Berwick’s schools,” the dedication reads.

Fogg’s path to the Berwick Police Department began long before he wore the uniform. As an eighth-grade student, he spent time job shadowing with Towne. Even then, Towne said, Fogg was clear about the kind of work he wanted to do.

“He told me he wanted to work with kids,” Towne recalled. “That’s something you don’t forget.”

After graduating high school, Fogg went on to serve in the military. When that chapter ended, he returned directly to Berwick and sought out the department where his path had first taken shape.

“He came right back to see me,” Towne said. “And within his first year, I sent him to training and he went into the schools. He’s been there ever since.”

Fogg officially joined the Berwick Police Department on May 20, 2004, and has spent the majority of his career as the School Resource Officer.

In a role where turnover is common, his consistency has stood apart. Towne said Fogg has remained in the school setting far longer than is typical for the position, building trust with students, families, staff, and the wider community.

“He’s probably tripled the average amount of time an SRO stays in a school setting,” Towne said. “He’s well respected. I have never really received any negative feedback. It’s always overwhelmingly positive whenever his name’s brought up.”

Over the years, Officer Fogg has become a constant presence in the lives of Berwick students. He reads in classrooms, mentors students through job shadowing, supports school programming, and has coached wrestling for more than a decade.

“He’s not just a 40-hour week person,” Towne said. “He’s completely engaged.”

His impact extends beyond daily school interactions. Fogg has been recognized as Police Officer of the Year by the American Legion and continues to build lasting relationships across the community.

“I don’t think he really grasps just how important his position is,” Towne said. “What he’s giving these kids… you can’t put a monetary value on. He connects the police department with the school system.”

During the meeting, Laterreur also spoke personally as a parent, thanking Fogg for the role he has played in the lives of Berwick students.

“There is not a negative thing that kids have ever said about you,” Laterreur said. “They love you, their friends love you. Thank you for everything you do for the town.”

Fogg said the recognition meant a great deal to him. He credited Towne as an important influence in his own life and said he tries to pass along his pride in Berwick to the students he works with each day.

“Tim’s always been a very steady, great presence in my life,” Fogg said. “I have a lot of pride in Berwick, and I do my best to instill that into the kids that come through the school district. I have fun with them, and I think that’s why. I’m like a kid at heart myself, so I think that’s why they like me.”

From his early job shadowing experience as a student to a career spent serving Berwick’s schools, Fogg has followed through on the goal he set for himself years ago.
