We are excited to announce our newest faculty member— Band Director Mr. Cullen Hinkle!
Mr. Cullen Hinkle is excited to announce that he will be returning to his alma mater, Berwick High School, as the Director of Bands beginning in the fall of 2026. Cullen began his teaching career in Havre, Montana, where he directed concert, marching, and jazz ensembles at both the high school and middle school levels. After five years in Montana, he returned home to St. Mary Parish Schools as an Instructor of Talented Music. Outside of teaching, Cullen stays active in the
community as a driver’s education instructor and performer with the Bayou Community Band.

Two of our students are honored tonight at the EBP Gala to receive scholarships! Congrats to Makenzie Linn and Isabell Ortiz!!

The EBP (Efremzimbalist Benefit Party) Foundation is a non-profit organization dedicated to making a positive impact within the St. Mary Parish community. Primarily focused on education, EBP strives to empower local high school students by providing scholarships, (Franklin Sr High School, West ST. Mary High School, and Patterson High School) foster opportunities for academic growth and support their pursuit of higher education. Beyond academics, the foundation actively engages in combating gun violence, recognizing the need for a safer community environment. Through its multifaceted approach, the EBP Foundation is committed to fostering a thriving and secure community by addressing educational and safety concerns.

We're so proud to celebrate Berwick High School graduate and current Tulane University student Kali Lasseigne, who was one of 128 recipients out of 829 applicants selected as a 2026 NOAA Ernest F. Hollings Scholarship recipient!

This prestigious national award recognizes outstanding undergraduates studying in NOAA mission fields - ocean and atmospheric science, research, and stewardship. Kali will receive academic support her junior and senior years with a paid summer internship at a NOAA facility, gaining hands-on experience in the very kind of coastal science that shapes the future of places like ours.

And the timing couldn't be better. Kali's home - the Atchafalaya - is poised to grow in opportunities as coastal science and stewardship careers increase as the Atchafalaya National Estuarine Research Reserve (ANERR) designation process moves forward. That means more opportunity for bright young people like Kali to build meaningful careers right here, close to home.

The Atchafalaya raised her. We can't wait to see what she does next!
