When we talk about what it means to have representation, I take it a couple of ways.
To make sure we are represented in priorities. To make sure we are represented in lived experiences. And to make sure we are represented with leadership that is able to combine the two.
Priorities = platform. Thatâs easy enough. For me you know I support an all-of-the-above approach to energy, rolling back the nickel and dime attitude the state has taken to tax policy (run through my opponent, Tax Committee Chair Rep. Sayre), investing in our childrenâs educators and education, and building up our infrastructure with broadband so our calls donât drop. Thatâs just the start.
Lived experiences is a whole other breed. Itâs about the lessons youâve learned. Itâs about the hardships youâve faced and the perseverance youâve adopted to keep going. Itâs a framing that life is bigger than yourself, itâs your family, your neighbors, and those who youâll never meet.
Representation in leadership combines the two. As a son of a single mother I have seen the absence of policy to support families that would have made my childhood easier for my mother, and they are the lens of lived experiences I take when thinking about the policies Iâd propose and prioritize that would help my own young family today with my wife, Kacy, and three young children.
As a veteran I have the lived experience lens of service over self, and the need for both objectivity to see through to the mission and the value of teamwork to accomplish a shared goal. Thatâs the representation in leadership I bring, the one my family, yours, and all those across Senate District 34 deserve, and itâs the representation in leadership I donât see affirmatively being applied during Rep. Sayreâs time in the State House.

Many when running for office say some combination of âitâs time for a new generation of leadershipâ when they really mean it is time for a new type of representation.
My resume has the ability to do the trick. With over 14 years of Air Force service, time as a combat veteran, continued service as a JAG in the AFR, someone who is raising a family here, a part-owner of a local small biz, a law firm partner who represents both York and Franklin Counties, and with being the type of fiscally prudent and socially moderate leader needed in Augusta, I have the skills to do the job.
It is my hope that Iâll earn your trust to do that job on November 3, and that is my familyâs hope too.
