At their March 17 evening meeting, the Clarke County Board of Supervisors approved a resolution for the 4H Skillathon Team.
The 2025 National Skillathon Contest was held at the North American International Livestock Exhibition in Louisville, Kentucky on November 16, 2025, with twenty-one teams and eighty-three contestants from across the United States competing.
Representing Virginia, the Frederick County 4-H Skillathon Team included members Emily Vincent and Jackson Kelly of Clarke County, and Emma Wisecarver, Corinne Cooley, and Keller Cooley of Frederick County and was coached by Ruth Boden and Clara Nelson Fellows, with assistance from Matthew Hartley.
The contest requires participants to demonstrate excellent decision making, problem solving, critical thinking, self-confidence, and teamwork skills, as well as exceptional knowledge of the livestock industry, from equipment and breed identification to management and marketing, and everything in between. With 1,548 points, the Frederick County 4-H Skillathon Team outscored the Illinois team by 18 points and secured the 2025 National Skillathon Championship title.
In addition to the National Championship, all four competing team members were named All-Americans, with Emily Vincent placing 2nd, Emma Wisecarver placing 5th, Jackson Kelly placing 19th, and Keller Cooley placing 20th. Coaches Ruth Boden and Clara Nelson Fellows have taken multiple teams to the National Contest before, but this was the first time that the team received the National Championship title and have had all four team members named All-Americans.
