The Berryville Athletic Hall of Fame event is coming August 28th-29th that will feature a free breakfast this year. The 2026 inductees are: Gene Ary, John Engskov, Ken Krumwiede, Owen Powell and Kim Williams.
Brief career highlights of each inductee are listed below:
Gene Ary was a two-sport All-State honoree in basketball and track and field in 1962, he remains the only individual Berryville Bobcat champion at the Meet of Champions, clearing 6-foot-3 inches in the high jump using the western roll — at the time the highest jump in Arkansas in any classification. He was also a two-time All-Conference college basketball player at UCA and later came back to Berryville as a coach and administrator serving the school he loved.
John Engskov, a 1992 graduate of Berryville High School, was a true multisport standout in basketball, golf, baseball, and cross country, contributing to three state championship teams while earning All-State honors in both golf and basketball. He went on to play for the University of Arkansas Razorbacks, where he was part of a remarkable four-year run that included three letters, two Sweet 16 appearances, two Final Fours, and the 1994 NCAA National Championship.
Ken Krumwiede was a standout runner on Berryville state championship cross country teams in 1971, 1972, 1973 and 1974. He later became the winningest coach in cross-country history at Berryville, leading the Bobcats to 6 boys state championships, 6 girls state championship, one girls indoor track state title, and three girls cross country state runner-up finishes.
Whether Owen Powell was anchoring the offensive line for championship football teams at Berryville High School and the University of Monticello, setting records in track and field, coaching young athletes, or guiding an entire school district as superintendent, Powell’s life has been defined by service, discipline, and an unwavering commitment to Berryville. Owen was an All-District and All-state football player for Berryville High School and a two-time All-Conference player and team captain at the University of Arkansas at Monticello as an offensive lineman, while also lettering in track and field.
Kim Williams helped pave the way for girls athletics as one of the founding players in Berryville’s women’s basketball program. A four-time All-District selection, she averaged 28 points per game during her senior season in 1978-79 and scored 56 points in a legendary performance that remains one of the defining moments in Lady Bobcat history. She continued her basketball career at North Arkansas Community College, helping lead the Lady Pioneers to an undefeated conference championship season, before joining the UCA Sugar Bears and helping them win the AIC Tournament.
