May is Mental Health Awareness Month.

Behind every fire truck, ambulance, and dispatch console are real people carrying the weight of difficult calls, long hours, stress, and trauma. First responders are trained to help others, but sometimes they need support too.

A simple check-in, conversation, or show of support can make a bigger difference than most people realize.

This month, we encourage everyone to help break the stigma around mental health and remind those struggling that they are not alone.

New research shows stronger collective bargaining laws would benefit all Virginians.
According to a recent report from the Economic Policy Institute, expanding full and equal collective bargaining rights for state and local government workers in Virginia could help reduce the public-sector pay gap, improve public services, and increase retention of qualified workers — benefits that directly align with what our members and our communities need.

Key takeaways Proposed state legislation to extend full, equal collective bargaining rights to all state and local government workers can help Virginia: reduce the state’s large public-sector pay gap improve public services reduce staff vacancies and turnover decrease racial and gender wage dispar...
