I’ve learned if it’s been marked “invasive” it’s most likely a medicinal plant.

A lot of what we call “weeds” are just plants doing their job we just forgot what that job was.

Here’s a whole bunch you’re probably walking past every day:

Mullein – respiratory support, coughs, lung health

Purple Dead Nettle – inflammation, allergies, wound support

Dandelion – liver support, digestion, natural diuretic

Plantain (broadleaf) – bug bites, drawing out infection, skin healing

Chickweed – itchy skin, rashes, cooling herb

Henbit – mild anti-inflammatory, gentle immune support

Yarrow – bleeding control, wound care, fever support

Goldenrod – kidney support, allergy support

Burdock – blood cleansing, skin support, digestion

Wild Lettuce – natural pain support, calming

Red Clover – hormone balance, blood support

Shepherd’s Purse – helps slow bleeding

Lamb’s Quarters – nutrient dense, supports overall health

Purple Violet – lymphatic support, skin soothing

Onion Grass (Wild Garlic) – antibacterial, immune support

Honeysuckle – cough support, calming

Clover (White) – skin soothing, mild detox support

Dock (Curly Dock) – iron rich, supports anemia

Self Heal (Prunella) – wound healing, immune support

Pokeweed (VERY specific use/knowledge needed) – traditional topical use for joint discomfort

Mallow – gut soothing, inflammation support

Ground Ivy (Creeping Charlie) – sinus support, congestion

Queen Anne’s Lace – digestion, urinary support

Spruce Pine Needles – vitamin C rich, immune support (tea)

Sumac (Staghorn) – vitamin C, cooling drink, immune support

Elderberry – immune support, cold/flu season staple

Jewelweed – poison ivy relief, skin soothing

Black Walnut (hulls) – traditional parasite support, skin uses
Milkweed (proper prep ONLY) – traditional food/uses when prepared correctly

Thistle – liver support (same family as milk thistle)

Amaranth (Pigweed) – nutrient dense, mineral rich

And that’s just scratching the surface

Most of these are labeled “nuisance plants” while people are out here buying capsules of the same thing in a bottle!!!

Not medical advice… just a reminder that a lot of what we need has been growing around us the whole time

Remember as a child
When you’d walk amongst the trees
And you’d find a stick that held
So many possibilities?

It could’ve been an arrow
It could’ve been a sword
It could’ve been a telescope,
A microphone, an oar

It could’ve been a hook you used
To catch things from afar
And it could’ve been a catapult
That launched a shooting star

It could’ve been a flute
That played a song you knew so well
And it could’ve been a wand
Ready to cast a thousand spells

Well, now what if I told you
That the stick was all of these?
Because there lies a certain
Sense of magic in the trees

A magic that reminds us
We are not too old to play
That helps us see the awe and wonder
Wrapped in every day

See, the forest is our playground
And the paths between the trees
Are endless new beginnings
Of adventures to be seized

So grab that stick and row to shore
Then search the midnight sky
Play your favourite song
Then cast a spell that makes you fly

Catch a shooting star
Then launch it back beyond the clouds
Search for hidden gold
And mark an X upon the ground

Remember how it feels to live
Like you’ve nothing to lose
When just a simple stick can be
Whatever you might choose

Then seize those new beginnings
Strewn across the forest floor
‘Cause adventure’s out there waiting
So, what are you waiting for?
