Last Sunday, Love Creek County Park & Nature Center was officially recognized as Michigan’s 25th forest in the Old-Growth Forest Network, a meaningful milestone for both the park and the community. For years, dedicated stewardship by Berrien County Parks staff, volunteers, and supporters has helped preserve this land as more than just a park, it’s a thriving, living ecosystem shaped by careful conservation and restoration.
At the heart of Love Creek is its beech-maple forest, where towering American beech and sugar maple trees shelter a vibrant forest floor each spring with blooms like white trillium, hepatica, dutchman's breeches, and spring beauties. This designation ensures the forest will remain protected, allowing natural processes to continue and providing a place for people to connect with and learn from such a valuable forest ecosystem for generations to come.

Our recent Owl Exploration hike on 4/17 was a success! This curious owl hung out with our group for a few minutes before flying off, then reappeared further down the trail bringing 2 other Barred Owls along. The 3 of them put on quite a show!
