The best thing about running a bird sanctuary is seeing the discoveries of our customers! Photo Credit: Ron Weissman. This blue heron was spotted in Hanover Township.
NJ is home to the Great Blue Heron, the largest heron in North America, standing nearly 4.5 feet tall with a wingspan up to 6 feet
They're found year-round in NJ near rivers, lakes, marshes, and coastal wetlands — places like the Great Swamp, Delaware River, and Barnegat Bay are prime spots
Some migrate south in harsh winters, but many stay through the cold if open water remains!
