’Twas the night before Election Day, and all through the state,
Not a candidate was relaxing, awaiting their fate,
The signs were staked in yards with care,
In hopes that victory soon would be theirs.
The electorate nestled all snug in their beds,
While visions of crab feasts danced in their heads.
With the candidate pacing and the spouse close behind,
It’s almost impossible to try to unwind.
When out of the dark there arose such a clatter,
Thinking, “Do people get that elections matter?!”
The alarm had sounded; it was time to arise,
Election Day has finally arrived before our eyes!
Now, Pocomoke! Now, Newark! Now, Snow Hill and Berlin!
Now, all of Worcester County, and Ocean City, join in!
Ballots are waiting with questions and names,
State and local races, each one staking claims.
And then, in a twinkling, voters will step in the booth,
Knowing this is the moment of democratic truth.
They speak not a lot, but get straight to the task,
Filling circles carefully, as our civic duty asked.
Then they smile with pride as they step out of sight,
Happy Election Day to Worcester County, and to all a good night!
