Berlin Borough Historic Preservation Commission Settled in 1714, Berlin began as Long‑A‑Coming on the Lonaconing Trail. The HPC proudly protects the history that shaped our town.

A stagecoach hotspot turned rail hub with NJ’s oldest depot, it was renamed Berlin in 1867 and became a borough in 1927.

Most people don’t know this, but the very first Eagle Scout in Boy Scouts of America history is buried right here in Berlin Boro.

Arthur R. Eldred, awarded the first Eagle Scout rank in 1912. A few weeks after becoming the first Eagle Scout, Eldred helped to save another Scout from drowning and was awarded the Bronze Honor Medal for his actions. He was present at his son Willard's own Eagle ceremony on October 27, 1944. Arthur passed away on January 4, 1951.

Sometimes precious things need to be moved to keep them safe. Maybe you’re too young to remember the hotel traveling a few blocks from its home of decades to where it proudly sits today. Now owned by the Borough of Berlin, it’s part of the Marie Flèche Library.

Forget roadside wildflowers—these are chickens crossing the dirt road of the White Horse Pike!

The White Horse Pike has existed since the Leni-Lenape indigenous people first settled southern New Jersey. First as a footpath from the Delaware River to the Atlantic coast, then as a stagecoach route on a rutted dirt road, and now as the highway we travel today. The Berlin Hotel has seen it all… even chickens!
