National Police Women Day is today, September 12, 2026. We would like to recognize our very own PSOs and personnel, past and present, and thank them for their service. Congratulations to Royal Oak Police Department Deputy Chief Keith on his well deserved retirement. DC Spencer has worked very closely with BDPS personnel over the years, including many special events and was an amazing partner in assuring the safety of these events.

And, a fun fact, DC Spencer is a former BDPS Dispatcher.

HOUSE FIRE — OAKSHIRE

At approximately noon today, Berkley Department of Public Safety Public Safety Officers (PSOs) were dispatched to the area of Oakshire, north of 11 Mile Road, for a reported basement fire.

Upon arrival, PSOs observed smoke coming from the residence. BDPS PSOs immediately entered the home and began extinguishing the fire. A box alarm was requested, bringing additional PSOs from Oak Park Public Safety, Huntington Woods Public Safety, and Beverly Hills Public Safety to assist.

The fire was extinguished a short time later. Crews remained on scene to check for extension and extinguish remaining hot spots.

Fortunately, no injuries were reported.

BDPS Fire Investigators are investigating the cause of the fire. At this time, the fire does not appear to be suspicious.

We appreciate the quick response and assistance of our mutual-aid partners from Oak Park Public Safety , Huntington Woods Department of Public Safety, and Village of Beverly Hills Public Safety Department .

What started as an idea for community relations has turned into our 15th annual Golf Outing. Thanks to the Chief for showing up in his kilt, but he now is serving a lifetime ban as a golf imposter.
