Northern California Land Trust

Northern California Land Trust The Northern California Land Trust (NCLT) is Community Land Trust making homes and community facilities permanently affordable.

The NCLT executes our mission by providing housing services, community development, and consulting/training services. We revitalize or develop properties (on our own or with local builders and funders and then sell the home at below-market cost to residents who have been trained by NCLT for home ownership responsibilities. Unlike most other affordable housing developers, NCLT retains the rights to

the land below the house and ensures that the home is resold at similar, below-market rates to the next homebuyer, guaranteeing low-cost housing in perpetuity.

Photos from NCLT’s Resident Happy Hour at Oakland’s own Two Pitchers Brewing Company! 🏡

We had the privilege of hosting many of NCLT’s homeowners, co-op owners, and commercial tenants as a part of our stewardship program. We were able to connect face-to-face and distribute emergency and community resources. We’re already looking forward to our next resident convening!

NCLT wishes a happy Black History month to all of our community members!

This Black History Month, NCLT wants to acknowledge the role that Black history plays in the origin of community land trusts. Born out of the Civil Rights era movement for Black land ownership, the very first CLT—New Communities Inc.—aimed to achieve economic stability amidst racist gentrification and displacement. As we continue our work of providing permanently affordable housing, NCLT continues to connect our mission back to the Black legacy of CLTs.

IT WAS A SUCCESS!

Last Friday, we had our annual fundraiser, “Building Power, Building Home” at the David Brower Center. It was a packed evening filled with community and collective power. We were overjoyed to see nearly a hundred of you show up for your NCLT community!

If you missed it, we were honored to virtually hear from State Senator Jesse Arreguín, in addition to NCLT’s Executive Director Asn Ndiaye and NCLT CalHome recipient Jesus Villareal. They all spoke on the importance of community-led affordable housing across CA.

A massive thank you to everyone who came and our sponsors: Community Planning Collaborative, Community Vision, and Partnerships with Purpose.
