..WINTER STORM WARNING IN EFFECT FROM 11 PM SATURDAY TO 4 AM EST
MONDAY...

* WHAT...Heavy mixed precipitation expected. Total snow and sleet
accumulations between 12 and 18 inches, with highest amounts north
and west of US-340. Ice accumulations up to two tenths of an inch,
mainly south and east of US-340.

* WHERE...Portions of north central Maryland, northern and northwest
Virginia, and eastern and panhandle West Virginia.

* WHEN...From 11 PM Saturday to 4 AM EST Monday.

* IMPACTS...Travel could be very difficult to impossible.

* ADDITIONAL DETAILS...Snow will likely overspread the area Saturday
night, becoming heavy at times with rates of one to two inches per
hour possible at times. A mix with sleet or freezing rain is
expected Sunday. Visibility of one-quarter mile or less is
possible at times. A prolonged period very cold wind chills is
likely beginning Friday evening and lasting through the middle of
next week.

PRECAUTIONARY/PREPAREDNESS ACTIONS...

If you must travel, keep an extra flashlight, food, and water in
your vehicle in case of an emergency. The latest road conditions for
the state you are calling from can be obtained by calling 5 1 1.

Persons should consider delaying all travel. Motorists should use
extreme caution if travel is absolutely necessary.

..MAJOR WINTER STORM POSSIBLE THIS WEEKEND...
A large area of precipitation will overrun Arctic air in place over
the Mid-Atlantic. This will likely lead to widespread significant
snow beginning late Saturday, with the potential for ice Sunday
especially south of Highway 50 and near and east of Interstate 95.
In addition to the high threat for significant snow and ice, very
cold temperatures are expected Friday night through the middle of
next week with sub-zero wind chills likely at times.
..WINTER STORM WATCH IN EFFECT FROM SATURDAY AFTERNOON THROUGH LATE
SUNDAY NIGHT...

* WHAT...Heavy snow mixed with sleet and freezing rain possible.
There is a high likelihood of at least 5 inches of snow, with over
10 inches possible. Ice accumulation is also possible, especially
south of Interstate 70.

* WHERE...Portions of central, north-central, and northern Maryland,
central, northern, northwest, and western Virginia, and eastern
West Virginia.

* WHEN...From Saturday afternoon through late Sunday night.

* IMPACTS...Travel could be very difficult.

* ADDITIONAL DETAILS...Snow will likely overspread the area by
Saturday evening, becoming heavy at times Saturday night with
rates of one to two inches per hour possible at times. A mix with
sleet or freezing rain is possible Sunday, especially south of
Interstate 70. Significant icing is possible especially across
central Virginia. Visibility of one-quarter mile or less is
possible at times. A prolonged period wind chills in the teens and
single digits is likely beginning Friday evening and lasting
through the middle of next week, with sub-zero wind chills
possible at times.

PRECAUTIONARY/PREPAREDNESS ACTIONS...

Monitor the latest forecasts for updates on this situation. Now is
the time to make preparations for the storm. This includes getting
any necessary groceries or medicines that you may not be able to
access this weekend into early next week due to any potential
closure. Have an emergency kit in the car including extra batteries,
a flashlight, and blanket just in case you get stranded. Make sure
to refuel or charge your car before the storm hits. Check on elderly
friends, family, and neighbors and don't forget about pets or
livestock during this prolonged cold period.

You are invited to a Public Scoping Meeting for the Warm Springs Run Watershed Protection Plan on Tuesday, August 26, from 3:00 to 5:00 p.m. at the Morgan County Courthouse. The process for analyzing the flooding and potential solutions to reduce damages caused by floods will be discussed by Town of Bath engineers.

Cooling Centers are open at the Berkeley Springs Senior Center, located at 106 Sand Mine Road, from 8am-4pm, and at the Paw Paw Senior Center, located at 783 Wi******er Street in Paw Paw, from 8am -12:30pm. An Extreme Heat Warning is in effect for much of the area from
late Tuesday morning through Tuesday evening. A Heat Advisory is
in effect for the central Shenandoah Valley and Potomac Highlands
for the same period.

The extended period of excessively hot and humid conditions
continues through at least Wednesday. Daily heat indices in the
afternoon and evening of 100 to 110 are expected, and up to 115
degrees is possible.

* Until 745 PM EDT.

* At 711 PM EDT, a severe thunderstorm capable of producing a tornado
was located over Greenwood, moving northeast at 25 mph.

HAZARD...Tornado.

SOURCE...Radar indicated rotation.

IMPACT...For those in the direct path of a tornado touchdown,
flying debris will be dangerous to those caught without
shelter. Damage to roofs, siding, and windows may occur.
Mobile homes may be damaged or destroyed. Tree damage is
likely.

* This tornadic thunderstorm will remain over mainly rural areas of
south central Morgan and northwestern Berkeley Counties.

PRECAUTIONARY/PREPAREDNESS ACTIONS...

TAKE COVER NOW! Move to a basement or an interior room on the lowest
floor of a sturdy building. Avoid windows. If you are outdoors, in a
mobile home, or in a vehicle, move to the closest substantial shelter
and protect yourself from flying debris.

The Red Cross shelter at Berkeley Baptist Church has been closed. There are still several roads that are closed due to high water. Signs are posted. Road closures are dynamic and may change at any time due to the current water levels. Do not attempt to cross flooded roadways.
