It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Alice Marie Keimel, a beloved member of the Berkeley Heights Volunteer Rescue Squad and community.

Alice dedicated more than 30 years to BHVRS, serving as an active-duty volunteer and Lieutenant before becoming a Lifetime Member. Her commitment to helping others and to our community left a lasting legacy.

At 103 years old, Alice leaves behind decades of memories and a place in the heart of the BHVRS family.

Rest easy, Alice. Thank you for a lifetime of service. You will be deeply missed. Our deepest condolences to Aliceโ€™s family and loved ones.

๐ŸŽ’๐Ÿ“š BACK TO SCHOOL = BACK TO SAFETY! ๐Ÿš‘

School is back, which means more buses, bikes, backpacks, and little feet on the move! Here are a few quick reminders from BHVRS:

๐ŸšŒ See a school bus? SLOW DOWN. Stop when required and watch for kids crossing.

๐Ÿš— School zones = extra eyes up! Put the phone down and watch for pedestrians.

๐Ÿšถ Walking to school? Use crosswalks, follow signals, and look both ways.

๐Ÿšฒ Riding a bike or scooter? Helmet onโ€”every ride, every time! โ›‘๏ธ

โค๏ธ And remember: a few extra seconds of patience can make a BIG difference.

Hereโ€™s to a happy, healthy & SAFE school year! ๐ŸŽโœ๏ธ

๐Ÿพ Happy National Dog Day! ๐Ÿพ

Meet some of the four-legged members of the BHVRS family! ๐Ÿถโค๏ธ

After returning from a call, thereโ€™s nothing better than coming home to these happy faces. Weโ€™re pretty sure theyโ€™re our biggest fansโ€”and our favorite reason to head home at the end of the shift! ๐Ÿš‘๐Ÿพ

Please join us in congratulating EMT Brian S. on becoming a regular member of the Berkeley Heights Volunteer Rescue Squad!

Brian joined BHVRS as a Cadet in 2022 and became an EMT while he was still in high school! He graduated from the Academy for Allied Health Sciences in 2024 and is currently attending Princeton University, where he is preparing for an incredible future in medicine. And, as if that werenโ€™t impressive enough, Brian has already been accepted to medical school! ๐ŸŽ“๐Ÿฉบ

Here at BHVRS, Brianโ€™s colleagues have quickly come to appreciate his calm and caring demeanor with patients. His intelligence and exceptional decision-making skills are qualities that are impressive at any age, but especially remarkable for someone so young.

Then again, when it comes to Brian, remarkable seems to be the standard.

Weโ€™re incredibly proud to have Brian as part of our BHVRS family and canโ€™t wait to see all that he accomplishesโ€”both on the squad and in medicine. โค๏ธ๐Ÿš‘

Tuesday crew ready to roll! EMTs Katherine, Sana, Lucy, and Ben have checked the ambulance and are ready for any calls that may arise! Our crews check the duty ambulance (and back up vehicles) twice a day every day to make sure everything is operational. In fact, Ben is our Vehicle Lieutenant in charge of vehicle maintenance and operations, as well as driving education.

A little trend with a lot of heart. โค๏ธ๐Ÿš‘ From hometown roots to decades of service, from cadet to mentorโ€”weโ€™re lucky to have these familiar faces answering the call and shaping the next generation of BHVRS.

It is with great sadness that we share the passing of former Berkeley Heights Volunteer Rescue Squad Chief Noel Genco.

Noel served our squad with dedication, compassion, and leadership, leaving a lasting impact on our organization and the community he loved. As an EMT and Chief, he exemplified what it meant to serve others with kindness and commitment.

Beyond the Rescue Squad, Noel was deeply involved in the Berkeley Heights community, sharing his love of science with local students, supporting scouting and community theater, and always willing to lend a helping hand. His curiosity, generosity, and warm spirit touched countless lives.

After moving to Colorado, Noel remained proud of his years of service in Berkeley Heights. His family has thoughtfully requested that, in lieu of flowers, donations in his memory be made to the Berkeley Heights Volunteer Rescue Squadโ€”a testament to the place and people that remained close to his heart.

We extend our deepest condolences to his beloved wife, Rosemarie, his children, Elizabeth and Andrew, his grandchildren, and all of Noelโ€™s family and friends.

Thank you, Chief Genco, for your years of service, your leadership, and the legacy you leave behind.๐Ÿ’™

Please join us in congratulating Peter Ilis, a BHVRS volunteer since 2016, on becoming a Paramedic!

While EMTs provide essential emergency care and stabilization, paramedics receive advanced training that allows them to perform more complex assessments and treatments in the field. Reaching this level takes tremendous dedication, hard work, and countless hours of trainingโ€”and Peter has put in all of it.

Weโ€™re incredibly proud to celebrate this accomplishment with Peter and grateful for the years of service he has already given to our community. ๐‚๐จ๐ง๐ ๐ซ๐š๐ญ๐ฎ๐ฅ๐š๐ญ๐ข๐จ๐ง๐ฌ ๐๐ž๐ญ๐ž๐ซ!!
