🏕️✨ Welcome to Camp First Grade! ✨🏕️

Mrs. Stefanko & Ms. Figueroa’s first graders spent last week exploring “Camp First Grade,” where campers traveled to different campsites to review and practice all the amazing math and reading skills they learned this year!

Students enjoyed reading A Camping Spree with Mr. McGee and Pete the Cat Goes Camping before practicing story elements and sequencing important events from the stories.

Campers also got creative by making their very own glowing lightning bugs to take home and crafting fishing poles for a fun fishing adventure around camp!

And of course, every great camping trip needs a yummy campfire treat! Students made delicious s’mores and wrote “how-to” pieces to teach others how to make them.

From reading and writing to math, crafts, and camping fun, Camp First Grade was filled with learning, laughter, and unforgettable memories!

📚✨ Today, Grindstone Elementary students kindergarten through second grade had the wonderful opportunity to welcome author Sylvia Harris! Students loved hearing about her journey as a writer and learning where she gets inspiration for her stories. Sylvia shared that many of her books are based on real-life experiences or ideas from her imagination, but before starting a new book, she always collaborates with her daughter, Cameron, to brainstorm ideas together! 💡❤️

Sylvia has written 10 books and is currently working on 2 more, including an exciting new series coming soon! She also shared that being featured in two books when she was younger helped inspire her dream of becoming a writer herself. What an amazing reminder to our students that stories can truly inspire future authors! ✍️📖

Thank you, Sylvia Harris, for spending the day with our students and encouraging creativity, imagination, and a love of reading at Grindstone! 💙

Our 3/4 Gifted students stepped into the world of da Vinci! 🖌️✈️
They practiced curiosity, used their senses, kept codices, explored symmetry, tried mirror writing, and designed their own flying machines. A trip to the art museum helped them see that even unfinished work can be beautiful and meaningful. 💡 🧡💙
