This year’s Ethiopian New Year celebration is especially meaningful to us. On Wednesday, September 16, 2026, join us at Settepani in New York City to celebrate the people, stories, and vision that have shaped M.O.R.E.

This year, we are incredibly honored to present our Founder’s Award to Jim Miller.

Nearly 30 years ago, Jim met Sister Senkenesh Mariam, whose extraordinary vision was to bring children who had lost their parents to HIV/AIDS together with members of the community receiving treatment for leprosy—not to create an institution, but to create families.

Jim believed in that vision. He founded M.O.R.E. to help bring it to life. For nearly three decades, Jim has remained deeply committed to supporting the mission and vision, which ensures children have what every child deserves: a family, a home, and the opportunity to grow up knowing that they matter.

Through M.O.R.E's support and collaboration with the Medhen Social Center, many thousands of children have been able to grow up and thrive in non-institutional settings grounded in family, community, empowerment, and tender, nurturing care.

Behind Jim’s many accomplishments is a person who has devoted his life to helping others find safety, dignity, opportunity, and hope. He embodies "Compassion in Action.” 💚

M.O.R.E.’s annual Ethiopian New Year Celebration will be held on Wednesday, September 16, 2026, at Settepani in NYC!

This year is extra special as we celebrate two incredible people who have been instrumental to M.O.R.E.’s growth since our founding: Mr. Jim Miller and Dr. Asqual Genetah, who we’ll be honoring with special awards. ✨

We’re also excited to launch M.O.R.E.’s next campaign: “Compassion in Action.”
