Three Decades of Dedication, Leadership, and Service
Thirty years ago, a young jailer walked into the former Benton County Jail for her first day on the job. She had no way of knowing that decades later, she'd be one of the most trusted voices at the Benton County Sheriff's Office, a mentor to countless coworkers, and a name known throughout the community she's spent her whole career serving. That person is Lieutenant Shannon Jenkins, and today we celebrate her milestone anniversary with the Sheriff's Office.
How do you begin to sum up a career like hers? The truth is, you can't. No announcement, no matter how thorough, could fully capture everything this woman has done, the lives she's touched, the knowledge she's built, and the difference she's made across her time serving Benton County.
Lieutenant Jenkins began her career in 1996 as a jailer at the former Benton County Jail. From day one, she showed the professionalism and determination that would come to define her career, and she soon advanced to the Patrol Division, specializing in Civil Operations. She continued taking on more responsibility, serving as Civil Sergeant and later Administrative Sergeant, meeting each new challenge head on.
In 2017, she was appointed Public Information Officer, combining her law enforcement experience with her exceptional communication skills. As PIO, she leads the Public Relations Division and serves as the primary connection between the Sheriff's Office, local media, and the Associated Press, handling the fast pace of that job with professionalism, credibility, and a healthy dose of patience.
Through her leadership, she's helped strengthen the relationship between BCSO and the community it serves, promoting transparency and trust so the public stays informed and connected. She's also deeply committed to the Sheriff's Office Community First initiative, serving on numerous boards and committees and always looking for ways to mentor others and build relationships throughout Benton County.
Along the way, Lieutenant Jenkins has been a coworker, supervisor, mentor, trainer, spokesperson, and trusted representative of the Sheriff's Office. She's witnessed tremendous change in law enforcement, technology, and community relations, and through it all she's adapted, grown, and stayed committed to the mission of serving others.
And after all this time, she's earned something every veteran of the profession understands: the wisdom that comes with having seen it all, and the stories to prove it.
