First graders were both Inquirers and Thinkers in science this week. Our investigation question was “What makes a surface look bright or dark?” Students worked with partners to use a light source (flashlights) on surfaces around the classroom to answer this question. We discussed the function of light sources and how they make surfaces look bright. This helps us solve the presented problem of “how can we light our puppet show background scene?” 🔦🌎

We are pleased to announce that The International School at Mary Mae Jones is authorized by International Baccalaureate as “An IB World School.” 🏆

This proclamation comes after two years of hard work by staff and a rigorous authorization protocol by the IB organization. We are proud to be one of two IB World PYP Schools in Arkansas and one of 600 in the nation. 🎉

We celebrated with our entire student body as well as with students from all of our IB schools: Barker MS, Washington Jr HS and Bentonville HS. A certificate of authorization was presented to our Superintendent, Dr. Jones, and Assistant Superintendent, Dr. Schwanhausser and will hang in the main office.

We will continue to provide an enriched and elevated educational experience at TIS, supported by international mindedness, second language instruction, conceptual inquiry-based learning and caring relationships.
