We are 2 weeks out for the car show and touch-a-truck. If you would like to pre-register your car send us a message we'll get you taken care of. We are going to have a fun filled day, from different agency vehicles on display as well as heavy equipment, demonstrations. Free swag from different companies, and agencies, Smokey the Bear, Sparky the fire dog, and we will have some special ones on hand but you'll have to come and see who shows for yourselves. Their will be food vendors on hand as well as different craft vendors. Of course all the beautiful antique cars and trucks to check out. Its all for a great cause to help a local fire dept that burned to the ground April of last year and despite all that the still served their community. So let's help them get back on their feet and into a new home.We also want to shout out to our awesome sponsors: ExxonMobil, RaJam, Shackleford, Regions Bank, Manasco's Body Shop, Wayne Saxton, Carquest of Yazoo and Visit Yazoo with out their support it would be difficult to make an event like this possible. We have our sign out on Hwy 49 across from Dollar General in Bentonia where the event will be held.

🎉 Happy Birthday to Mayor Kim Martin! 🎉

Today, we’re sending a huge happy birthday shoutout to one of our finest, Kim Martin!

Kim wears many hats in our community, serving not only as a dedicated firefighter with the Bentonia Volunteer Fire Department but also as the Mayor of Bentonia! Her military discipline and basic medical training have proven time and again to be invaluable assets to our department and to the safety of our town.

When she’s not serving her community, you can usually find Kim traveling to new places or showering love on every animal she meets. Her passion, leadership, and deep love for Bentonia make our town a better, safer place to live every single day.

Thank you for everything you do, Kim! We hope your birthday is as wonderful, adventurous, and special as you are! 🚒🐾✈️🎂

July 7, 1967 – A Legacy That Continues to Save Firefighters

On this day in Montgomery, Alabama, Fireman Hershel O. Roy made the ultimate sacrifice when he was killed in a catastrophic backdraft explosion while battling an early-morning fire in a row of downtown mercantile buildings. A massive blast blew out the front walls, burying him beneath tons of falling debris.

His death was a heartbreaking tragedy, but it also became a turning point for the fire service. The lessons learned from this incident helped drive significant advancements in firefighter training, with a greater emphasis on recognizing backdraft conditions, understanding ventilation hazards, reading fire behavior, and evaluating structural integrity before making entry.

Because of those changes, countless firefighters have returned home safely to their families. Fireman Roy's sacrifice has saved lives far beyond that day in 1967, and his legacy continues every time a firefighter recognizes the warning signs of a dangerous fire event and changes tactics accordingly.

Today, we honor Fireman Hershel O. Roy—not only for his courage and sacrifice, but for the lasting impact he has had on generations of firefighters. His legacy lives on in every firefighter whose life has been protected by the lessons learned from that tragic day.

Despite the battles, natural disasters, accidents, and catastrophic events this flag flies true. Happy 250th Birthday America when we first declared our independence. Thanks to all those who have defended her near and far to keep our nation free and safe. So we can enjoy the freedoms our forefathers sought out and secured, and still defend today. Hope everyone has a safe and joyful 4th of July our independence day.
