🇺🇸 Benton Harbor Commemorates the 25th Anniversary of 9/11
This past Friday, the City of Benton Harbor held its 25th Anniversary 9/11 Remembrance Ceremony, bringing together community members, first responders, and local, state, and federal leaders to honor the lives lost on September 11, 2001.
We were honored to welcome Congressman Bill Huizenga, who presented Benton Harbor Department of Public Safety Firefighter Paul Delle, an FDNY EMT on September 11, 2001, with an American flag that was flown over the U.S. Capitol on July 5, 2026.
During the ceremony, Mayor Marcus Muhammad reflected on the unity that followed September 11 and challenged us to carry that same spirit forward today.
“It is great to remember those who sacrificed their lives, but what are we willing to sacrifice to bring our nation together?”
As we remember the thousands of lives lost that day, we also remember the “Forgotten Firefighter,” Keith Roma of the New York Fire Patrol, who gave his life while helping rescue others at the World Trade Center and is remembered as the 344th firefighter killed on 9/11.
The ceremony concluded with the tolling of a fire truck bell 20 times in symbolic remembrance of the lives lost.
Twenty-five years later, Benton Harbor remembers their lives, their courage, their service, and the unity that brought our nation together.
