We’re proud to have been recognized with two 2026 Mid-America Economic Development Council (Mid-America EDC) Awards for our work supporting entrepreneurship and advancing placemaking.

Business Plan Certified received the Entrepreneurial Award for its impact on local entrepreneurs and their path toward growth.

Canal Commons received the Placemaking Award for transforming an underused area into a place for gathering, recreation and community activity along Benton Harbor’s waterfront.

Mid-America EDC connects economic development professionals across a 13-state region and recognizes innovative economic development initiatives through its annual awards program.

These awards are a reflection of the partnerships, investment and work happening to continue moving Berrien County forward.

Earlier this month, our Vice President of Economic Development, Greg King, joined local and state resource partners for a meeting and facility tour at Megapro Tools in Niles Charter Township alongside members of the company’s Canadian leadership team, so you can imagine Greg’s excitement getting to be out and about with their team!

The group got a firsthand look at how Megapro’s multi-bit screwdrivers are made and assembled, while learning more about the company’s U.S. operations and continued growth in Berrien County.

We’re proud to support Megapro and grateful that they call Berrien County home. We look forward to continuing to work alongside our partners to support their growth here locally.

We recently welcomed representatives from Western Michigan University to Berrien County for a day of business visits and conversations focused on future collaboration.

Representatives from WMU’s College of Engineering and Applied Sciences, Office of Government Relations & External Partnerships, and Office of Research & Innovation joined our Vice President of Economic Development, Greg King, for visits to Convergix, Keurig Dr Pepper and Whirlpool.

The visits gave the group a firsthand look at the work happening within these companies and opened conversations around where WMU expertise and resources could align with future initiatives across talent, research, design and innovation.

Last month, our team hit the road for the Industrial Park Blitz, a countywide effort to survey industrial sites across Berrien County.

This fieldwork gives our team a closer look at industrial properties and helps us better understand the sites, infrastructure and opportunities that can support future investment and growth across the county.

A big thank you to our team for putting in the time, miles and boots-on-the-ground work to support Berrien County’s continued economic development. A special thank you to our summer intern, Lily Arnold, who helped coordinate the effort and keep everything organized along the way!

This week marked Lily’s final week with the Cornerstone Alliance team, and we’re so grateful we had the chance to have her with us this summer!

Over the past few months, Lily has jumped into a little bit of everything, from researching trends for our upcoming Industry Trends Report and analyzing data to helping coordinate the Industrial Park Blitz, supporting marketing and events, and representing Cornerstone at Intern Connect 2026 in Grand Rapids.

She’s been a fantastic intern and brought a lot of curiosity, enthusiasm, and fresh perspective to the team. It’s been great watching her learn more about the work happening across Berrien County and find ways to contribute along the way.

While we’re sad to see her go, we’re excited to see what’s next! This fall, Lily heads to Western Michigan University to pursue a double major in Dance/Arts Administration and Exercise Science.

Thank you, Lily, for all of your hard work and for being such a great part of our team. We’ll miss you and wish you the very best at Western!
