🚨 AMBULANCE ETIQUETTE 101:
When you see lights and sirens DO:
✅ Pull to the right ➡️- Move to the right side of the road and stop
✅ Stay calm - Don’t panic or make sudden moves
✅ Check your mirrors - Make sure we can get around you safely
✅ Wait until we pass - Don’t immediately pull back into traffic
✅ Give us space - We need room to maneuver safely

DON’T:
❌ Stop in the middle of the road - This blocks our path
❌ Speed up - We need to predict your movements
❌ Follow behind us - Don’t use us to get through traffic
❌ Pull to the left - ➡️Right side only, please!
❌ Ignore us - We’re coming to help someone who needs us
Michigan law requires: All vehicles must yield the right-of-way and pull to the right for emergency vehicles with lights and sirens.
Why it matters: Every second counts when someone’s life is on the line. Your quick, safe response helps us reach patients faster.

🚐 Do you know what a Wheelchair Van is?

Our wheelchair vans play a vital role in our community by providing safe, reliable transportation for individuals with mobility needs who require non-emergency medical appointments, treatments, and healthcare services.

These specialized vehicles ensure that everyone has access to the care they need, while also serving an important operational purpose: keeping our ambulances available for true emergencies.

So what makes a wheelchair van special? These vehicles are equipped with:
• Hydraulic or electric lifts or ramps for safe, dignified entry and exit
• Secure wheelchair tie-down systems that keep mobility devices stable during transport
• Extra space designed specifically to accommodate wheelchairs and mobility equipment
• Trained staff who understand how to safely secure wheelchairs and assist passengers

Whether someone needs transportation to dialysis, physical therapy, routine doctor visits, or scheduled procedures, our wheelchair vans provide a comfortable and secure ride. Every passenger deserves to travel with dignity and safety.

🔍 BEHIND THE SCENES: What happens before we ever see a patient?
Every shift at Medic 1 starts the same way - a thorough equipment check that can take 20-30 minutes. This isn’t just “making sure it’s there” - it’s about making sure everything works when seconds count.
✅ What we check:
• Oxygen levels and regulator function
• Defibrillator battery and pads
• IV supplies and medication expiration dates
• Stretcher mechanisms and safety locks
• Radio communication systems
• Emergency lighting and sirens
Our crews don’t just inventory - they TEST everything. We run the monitor through its paces, check drug expirations, and ensure every piece of equipment responds exactly as it should. Why? Because when you or your loved one needs us, there’s no time for “Oops, this battery is dead” or “Where did we put the backup oxygen?” Your emergency becomes our priority the moment we get the call. A little throwback to the Berrien County Youth Fair 🎨

We had the best time meeting young friends at our booth. The kids created these amazing coloring pages, and we knew right away they deserved a special spot in our central station.

Since the fair, these colorful masterpieces have been brightening the walls. Every single shift, our medics walk past these reminders of why we do what we do - the families and children we’re honored to serve in this community.

Our EMT Hybrid Class kicks off October 15th- May 16th in Bridgman, MI.

📍 Location: 3240 W Shawnee Rd, Bridgman, MI
🗓 Mondays & Wednesdays (with occasional Saturdays)
⏰ 6:00 PM – 10:00 PM

🇺🇸 We Remember. We Climb. We Honor. Today our team joined firefighters, EMS, and community members at Al Stockman Stadium for the 9/11 Remembrance Day stair climb—symbolically completing the 110 stories of the Twin Towers to honor the 343 firefighters, 60 police officers, 8 paramedics, and every life lost on September 11, 2001.💙🤍❤️

Every step is a promise: We will never forget.

Today we pause to honor the lives lost, the families forever changed, and the heroic first responders who ran toward danger when our nation needed them most.

🕊️ 2,977 souls taken too soon.
🚒🚑🚓 Hundreds of firefighters, EMTs, paramedics, and police officers who made the ultimate sacrifice.
🇺🇸 A nation that stood together in the face of unimaginable tragedy.

At Medic 1, we will never forget the courage, resilience, and unity shown that day. We carry their legacy forward in every call, every patient, every moment we put on the uniform.

🙏 Today, we remember. Tomorrow, we continue to serve.
