Len Burton for Benton City Mayor

Len Burton for Benton City Mayor Please reach out to with questions or concerns regarding Benton City. I am proud to live is such a great community.

I would like to express my gratitude to my neighbors, city staff, citizens of Benton City and those council members who have encouraged me to run for Mayor of Benton City. I have lived in the Benton/Franklin Counties area since 1955 and have lived in Benton City since 2012. OBJECTIVE GOALS IF I BECOME MAYOR:
- I would like to see the I-82 South Subarea project move forward, with guidance that woul

d insure the project's success.
- Provide leadership to improve city staff morale and to minimize employee turnover.
- Work to insure a city budget is in place by the beginning of each year.
-Insure future development protects property values and preserves community aesthetics.
- Establish new recreational use areas.
- It has been suggested a need exists for more than one bridge into Benton City. Seeking the state and counties help for a 2nd bridge needs to be undertaken. A second bridge would improve community safety and provide for timely emergency responses. If the current bridge was out of service for any length of time, the outage would create major challenges for the community within Benton City.
- Many hours of service have been given for the improvement of the boat launch area and surrounding park. I would like to see this area developed into useable park space, as the number of visitors continues to increase. EDUCATION:
- Columbia Basin College: 1969-1971
- Washington State University: 1971-1973

COMMUNITY SERVICE:
- 16 years: Volunteering with the Boy Scouts.
- 100's of hours given to Benton City as a community volunteer.
- Benton City Revitalization Beautification Project Volunteer.
- Work closely with the local food bank as a volunteer and procurer of foods from local farmers.
- Cut down and cup up 85% plus of the trees, clearing the boat launch area, as well as helped organize and clean up the debris.
- Spent time on the 14th Street walking trail area, removing dead trees & garbage.
- Big supporter of the food bank. In August 2023 I procured over 12,000 pounds of food for our local bank, and arranged an additional 18,000 pounds for the NW Harvest, who helps supply other food banks in our area.
- Built and stained the picnic table under the mulberry tree at the boat launch park. PROFESSIONAL EXPERIENCE:
- 25+ years of business and leadership experience, managing large projects and activities.
- 12 years: Oversaw the design, sales and installation of large pivot irrigation projects
If elected, the Mayors monthly salary will be returned to Benton City coffers for the community improvements.
- 16 years: General Manager of a company grown from startup into one of the largest businesses of its kind in Washington State.
- Overseen design and installation of projects with values into the millions of dollars.
- Experience working with cultural artifact surveys.
- Managed operation with over 50 employees.
- Worked in business consulting.
- Leadership emphasis

I LOVE BENTON CITY!

- WIND TURBINES & WILDFIRE SAFETY -

Urgent Action - Support the Aerial Firefighting Legislation

HB 2117 and SB 6188 - Wildfire Safety

Rep. Stephanie Barnard and Sen. Matt Boehnke Proposed Aerial Firefighting Bill has been given a hearing on very short notice before the Environment and Energy Committee. This is TODAY -- Monday January 15 at 1:30 PM.

We need as many people as possible to send in comments and support the bill asap.

To be maximally effective, we ask that comments focus on protecting lives and property from the destruction of wildfire.

Here is the best link:
https://app.leg.wa.gov/csi/Testifier/Add?chamber=House&mId=31610&aId=156890&caId=23149&tId=4

This sends comments directly to the Committee.

Click on the link and then click on the Green “Committee Sign In - Written Testimony”. It takes only two minutes to complete the entire process.

Write a few sentences in the comment box. Tell people where you live, what you have witnessed or experienced with wildfires on the Horse heaven Hills or Red Mountain, and your support for the legislation. Tell them how important this is to the protecting people.

You can also upload files and photos or even videos if you wish.

This legislation preserves aerial firefighting capability and prevents the approval of wind turbines that restrict and interfere with aerial firefighting operations.

The goal is protecting lives and property from the destruction of wildfire.

If you have any questions, feel free to email me [email protected] or call me on 509-531-8390.

The First Presidency of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints released the following Christmas message:
The Christmas season is often associated with gifts. The most desirable gifts are those offered to us by our loving Heavenly Father and our Savior, Jesus Christ. These gifts are made possible because Jehovah condescended to come to earth as the baby Jesus. He was born of an immortal Father and a mortal mother. He was born in Bethlehem under the humblest of circumstances. His was the holy birth foreseen by prophets since the days of Adam. Jesus Christ is God’s transcendent gift — the gift of the Father to all of His children (see John 3:16). That birth we joyfully celebrate each Christmas season.

The Savior’s infinite and perfect love moved Him to atone for all of God’s children. That gift — the Atonement of Jesus Christ — allows all of His other gifts to be ours.

We testify that God lives! Jesus is the Christ — the Messiah.
