Arizona State Parks strongly believes that social media is a tool for consumers and communities to receive updates. We believe firmly that social media must be a safe space for all participants to engage in full and fair dialogue. All posters are encouraged to agree or disagree on any positions on any of our social media outlets. We remind individuals who post, that children, youth and families have access to all of these posts and we want to maximize participation that is free from intimidation or bullying. Name-calling, intimidation or bullying of other social media participants will never be tolerated. Abusive, excessively disruptive and harassing posts will also be considered prohibitive of the fair and safe space we intend to maintain. Posts with unrelated information or political agendas will be removed. We will monitor communications and take appropriate action in order to ensure that these policies are consistently adhered to.

We’re excited to announce that the Cavern Sky Gift Shop at Kartchner Caverns State Park is opening on October 15, 2026! 🎉

Managed by Red Ridge Hospitality LLC, the gift shop will once again welcome visitors looking for souvenirs, gifts, and items to make their visit special. We’ll also have essentials and convenient items for our campers to enjoy during their stay.

Whether you’re here for a cave tour, a hike, or a camping trip, stop by and see what we have to offer.

We’re proud to celebrate Catalina State Park receiving the Outstanding Governmental Agency Committed to Environmental Education Award from the Arizona Association for Environmental Education (AAEE)!

This award recognizes the hard work and dedication of the team behind the Nature Program, which has been bringing environmental education to underserved communities across Arizona since 2024.

We’re especially proud that Kartchner Caverns Ranger Jaye and Hailey have been part of this effort, helping bring environmental education and opportunities to connect with nature to students and communities who may face barriers to visiting a state park.

Thank you to everyone who continues to make environmental education accessible and helps inspire the next generation to appreciate and protect our natural world.

🦗 Meet the Horse Lubber Grasshopper also known as Mexican General Grasshopper!

If you’ve been exploring Southern Arizona, you may have come across the Mexican general grasshopper (Taeniopoda eques). With its striking black body, bright orange markings and large size, this grasshopper is hard to miss!

These grasshoppers are native to the Sonoran Desert and are commonly seen during the summer and monsoon season. They feed primarily on desert plants and move along the ground in search of food.

Despite their bold appearance, Mexican general grasshoppers are harmless to people. Their bright colors serve as a warning to predators that they aren’t an easy meal.

The next time you’re out exploring Kartchner Caverns State Park, keep an eye on the ground. You might just spot one of these colorful desert residents! 🌵🦗
