As election season gets underway, NHDOT is reminding candidates and campaign workers that political signs are prohibited within State highway rights-of-way and may be removed when they create a safety hazard or interfere with highway operations.
Signs that interfere with traffic or highway maintenance, including mowing, may also be removed.
Candidates should place signs only on private property with the property owner’s permission and remove all signs by the required deadline following the election.

Remember, it is illegal in New Hampshire to "drive on any way any motor vehicle registered in this state which has aftermarket tinting on the windshield." (RSA 266:58-a)

NEWS RELEASE: NEARLY 70 ARRESTED OVER JULY 4 HOLIDAY WEEKEND

CONCORD, N.H. – Nearly 70 people were arrested during statewide enhanced enforcement initiatives over the July 4 holiday weekend.

Between Friday, July 3, 2026, and Sunday, July 5, 2026, the New Hampshire State Police added additional patrols to deter and detect dangerous driving and boating behaviors.

During the initiatives, Troopers conducted nearly 1,600 traffic stops, which resulted in 659 speed citations and 59 citations for distracted driving. Of the 65 drivers arrested, 17 were suspected of operating under the influence. Additionally, during the efforts, there were 3,403 total calls for service. No deadly crashes were reported to the State Police.

Additionally, Marine Patrol Officers stopped 163 boats, including 19 hazardous/reckless boaters. Officers responded to 10 reported boating-related crashes and made five arrests, four of which were for boating under the influence.

The New Hampshire State Police remain committed to enhancing safety for all roadway and waterway users and will continue to enforce the state’s traffic safety laws.

Never allow children to handle, play with, or light any type of fireworks. Supervision is crucial to prevent accidents, as even sparklers can cause significant injury, burning at temperatures over 1,200 degrees Fahrenheit.

Use sparklers in open, outdoor spaces away from buildings, trees, dry grass, and other flammable materials. Light them one at a time and have water available nearby.
