Twin Valley Usd 240 Two schools. One mission. Bennington and Tescott schools together offer excellent education to the students of our district.

Twin Valley Schools prides itself on its dedication to serve students and making students our number one priority. We are in a small town setting; Bennington is located just 10 miles north of Salina and is easily assessed by I-35 and K-18. Tescott is located just 16 miles west of Bennington or 22 miles northwest of Salina on K-18. Both towns have small town living but are close to Salina and Conco

rdia conveniences. The Twin Valley School District serves approximately 645 students in grades pre-K through 12. The district employs approximately 100 certified and classified staff. The school district provides bus transportation to students who live 2.5 or more miles from school. The food service department has both a breakfast and lunch program providing students with healthy and nutritious meals. A dedicated Board of Education, administrative team, teaching staff, support staff, parents, and community strengthen the efforts of the Twin Valley School District to provide the best educational opportunities possible for students. There is a high level of student involvement in school activities and we conform to a no-cut policy for our athletic teams. Congratulations to Katie Deckert, our 2025-2026 Twin Valley Teacher of the Year!

Mrs. Deckert exemplifies what it means to go above and beyond for students, colleagues, and the entire Twin Valley community. Throughout the year, she has created meaningful, hands-on learning experiences that connect classroom lessons to the real world and help students begin exploring future careers and opportunities.

Her classroom has been filled with innovative experiences including guest speakers, career exploration lessons, Home Depot building projects, field trips, and partnerships with organizations such as Kansas State University. These opportunities have allowed students to discover interests, develop confidence, and see possibilities for their future that they may not have otherwise imagined.

Mrs. Deckert's colleagues shared repeatedly that she is always willing to step up wherever needed — whether volunteering for school events, supporting fellow teachers, encouraging students, or taking on the MTSS role this year to support both staff and students during a time of transition. Her positive attitude, commitment to students, and dedication to the Twin Valley community are evident in everything she does.

Perhaps the greatest reflection of her impact comes directly from students, as several colleagues shared that many 5th graders have called this their “best year yet.”

Mrs. Deckert shared “I would like to take this opportunity to thank Dr. Graves, Tescott Principal, for continually supporting me to think bigger about what is possible in my classroom. Without his constant encouragement, many of the things I’ve done in the classroom wouldn’t have been possible.”

Mrs. Deckert's passion for education, her creativity, and her heart for kids make her incredibly deserving of this recognition.

Congratulations, Katie, and thank you for the difference you make every single day!

Bennington Grade School and USD 240 would like to recognize Ms. Brittney Menges for being selected as one of the Top 25 teachers nationwide for the Gold Star Teacher of the Year Award through Get Your Teach On (GYTO). Chosen from more than 1,000 nominees across the country, this recognition highlights educators who are making an exceptional impact in their schools and communities. GYTO is a nationally recognized organization that provides professional development, resources, and encouragement for educators while celebrating excellence and innovation in teaching. The Gold Star Teacher of the Year Award honors educators who go above and beyond to make a meaningful difference for students.

Ms. Menges is incredibly deserving of this recognition. In just her seventh year of teaching, she has already established herself as a leader, relationship-builder, and passionate advocate for students. A previous USD 240 Teacher of the Year recipient, Ms. Menges is also a member of the GYTO “Magic Squad,” a group of educators selected to help encourage and inspire others through positivity, creativity, and connection within the profession. She consistently brings energy, innovation, and heart into her classroom while building strong relationships with students, families, and colleagues. Her ability to create engaging learning experiences while fostering a positive classroom culture is truly special. The USD 240 Twin Valley board of education had the opportunity to recognize a group of outstanding student musicians at the May board meeting who recently earned Division I ratings at the Kansas State High School Activities Association State Solo and Small Ensemble Festival. Receiving a “1” rating at the state level represents the highest level of achievement and reflects countless hours of practice, preparation, dedication, and perseverance.
These students not only represented themselves well, but also their school, teachers, families, and the entire Twin Valley community with excellence and professionalism. Their accomplishments highlight the importance of fine arts education and the talent, commitment, and hard work of our students and music program.
We congratulate each of these students on this outstanding achievement and thank the directors, families, and supporters who helped make this success possible. Dallas Matthews was the grand prize winner of this year's CyberNut Cybersecurity raffle! Throughout the year, USD 240 staff and students use the CyberNut Awareness Training to learn to recognize and report suspicious emails. Every correctly reported email earned them an entry into various prize raffles. A very special thanks goes out to Twin Valley, who generously donated the iPad as our grand prize!

We are excited to share the April Staff Members of the Month.
A nominator had this to share about Kelly Case, Tescott Building Operator:
Kelly works very hard to keep our facility maintained and looking great! Since the flood last fall, he has spent many EXTRA hours getting the building, field, throwing areas, and track ready for students and athletes. We are often complimented on our facilities, and much of that gratitude belongs to Kelly. Thank you!!

Our Bennington award winner, Michele McKellips, Paraprofessional, had this said about her:
Michele has a remarkable ability to connect with students of all backgrounds and needs. She approaches each child with empathy, understanding that success looks different for everyone. Whether offering a reassuring word during a difficult moment or celebrating even the smallest achievements, Michele fosters confidence and resilience in these students.

Thanks for all you do for staff and students in Twin Valley!
