‼️🚨UPDATE - BOTH SUSPECTS HAVE BEEN APPREHENDED 🚨‼️

‼️Update # 4‼️ The Marlboro County Sheriff's Office is continuing its search for two escaped suspects and has enlisted the assistance of the South Carolina Law Enforcement Division (SLED) dog team and aviation unit. The individuals were recently spotted by law enforcement near Brushy Bay and Florence Street. We advise residents to remain indoors and secure their doors. If you encounter the individuals, please contact 911 immediately.

‼️Update #3‼️
The ground search and drone operations for the two individuals who walked away from AMI have been suspended for the night due to recent fires in the area, which created hotspots that hindered drone operations and made the search more challenging. The two individuals are from Hartsville and Estill, SC. We will continue conducting roving patrols in the area tonight and will coordinate with AMI and the Department of Juvenile Justice to apprehend the individuals. If you feel unsafe or require our assistance in checking your area, please contact 911 immediately.

- Chief Deputy Larry Turner

‼️Update #2‼️
You will notice an increased law enforcement presence due to a vehicle pursuit related to an unrelated incident involving Bennettsville PD, which concluded near the search scene for the escaped individuals. The suspect from the vehicle pursuit has been apprehended.

‼️Update‼️
The Darlington County Sheriff Office drone team is now assisting with the escape.

Residents of the Marlboro Road area of Bennetsville may observe an increased presence of deputies. A search operation is currently underway for two juveniles who have walked off from AMI Kids. As a precautionary measure, please ensure that your vehicles are secured and your doors are locked on your residence. The individuals in question are described as Jerry Cotton a black male juvenile. Cotton is approximately 5’06” tall, weighs approximately 130 pounds, has black hair and brown eyes, and was last seen wearing black jogging pants, a white t-shirt, and slide-style sandals.

We would like to extend a huge thank you to all of our EMS personnel. Their hard work and dedication everyday for every call never goes unnoticed.

As we begin EMS Week, we want to take a moment to recognize the men and women of Marlboro County EMS who answer the call every single day, regardless of the circumstances.

EMS is not an easy profession. It demands long hours, missed holidays, sleepless nights, difficult decisions, and the ability to remain calm during some of the worst moments in another person’s life. Our crews routinely walk into chaotic, emotionally charged, and unpredictable situations while carrying the responsibility of caring for complete strangers at their most vulnerable.

What the public often does not see are the sacrifices made behind the scenes. The training. The continuing education. The emotional toll of traumatic calls. The time away from families. The pressure of making split-second decisions in environments where there is rarely perfect information and where outcomes are sometimes judged later from the comfort of an armchair by people who were not there in the moment.

Despite that, our providers continue to show up. They continue to serve. They continue to put the citizens of this county first.

This week, we celebrate the dedication, professionalism, resilience, and heart of every EMT, paramedic, dispatcher, supervisor, and support staff member who makes this system function. Thank you for what you do for Marlboro County every day.
