The Bennettsville Police Department is actively investigating reports of occupants in a black Dodge Charger discharging what appeared to be a fully automatic firearm in the area of Beauty Spot Road and Jefferson Street.

Anyone willing to fire a weapon from a moving vehicle through our community has demonstrated a complete disregard for human life and the safety of the citizens of Bennettsville. This reckless behavior placed innocent residents, motorists, and families at risk and will not be tolerated.

Our officers and investigators are actively pursuing all available leads and dedicating the necessary resources to identify those responsible. Additional patrol efforts are being conducted as this investigation continues.

Let there be no misunderstanding: when the individuals responsible are identified, they will be arrested and prosecuted to the fullest extent of the law.

The Bennettsville Police Department remains committed to protecting our community and holding violent offenders accountable for their actions. Those responsible for this incident made a poor decision. We intend to ensure they are held accountable for it.

Anyone with information regarding this incident is encouraged to contact the Bennettsville Police Department.

The Bennettsville Police Department proudly congratulates the Marlboro County High School Class of 2026.

Today represents more than the end of a school year. It represents years of hard work, perseverance, sacrifice, and determination.

As you step into the next chapter of life, remember that success is not determined by where you come from, but by the character, integrity, and effort you bring to everything you do.

Some of you will continue your education. Some will enter the workforce. Some will serve in the military. Some will build businesses, careers, and families right here in Marlboro County.

No matter where life takes you, know that your community is proud of you.

Congratulations, Bulldogs.

The future is yours.

Chief Sammy Crosland and the officers at the Bennettsville Police Department.
