🎅🏝️ Christmas came early at Marlboro County 4-H during our Christmas in July Workshop!

Our youth had a wonderful time sewing their own Christmas stockings, painting seashell ornaments, building snowman traps, creating Grinch kabobs, competing in reindeer games, and cooling off with an indoor snowball fight. We cranked up the Christmas music, embraced the holiday spirit, and pretended the July heat was a little more like December!

A huge THANK YOU to our amazing volunteers—Mrs. Betty Ann Souther, Terrie Curtis, and Peggy Gardner—for sharing your time and talents to make this workshop such a success. We couldn't have done it without you!

Thank you to everyone who joined us for a fun-filled day of Christmas cheer. ☀️🎁❄️

Big thank you to Michael Ridley for volunteering to present at our homeschool club meeting today! Michael, a certified HAM radio operator, spoke to our club about how radios work, shared models he created to represent a receiver, and led our group in a fun game of hide-and-seek—radio style. Our 4-H members had a blast learning about this unique form of communication, and we loved seeing Michael’s enthusiasm and passion for teaching others.

Amateur radio—often called HAM radio—is a form of communication that allows people to talk with others around the world using radios instead of the internet or cell phones. HAM radio operators learn how radio signals travel, build and use equipment, and provide important communication during emergencies when other systems may fail. It’s a fun way to explore science, technology, and public service, and people of all ages can get involved. 📻

Many youth and adults enjoy HAM radio as a hobby because it combines hands-on learning, problem-solving, and the excitement of connecting with others near and far!

🪨🍀🎤 Rock Your Speech Presentation 🪨🍀🎤

Last month, 16 Marlboro County 4‑H members attended our Fun in 4‑H Club meeting to practice overcoming their fear of public speaking. Each youth selected and decorated a pet rock, then rehearsed a one-minute speech to share about their creation. I was so impressed that even our most shy members confidently stood up to present, showing growth in both courage and communication skills.

Activities like this help 4‑H youth build confidence, improve communication skills, and practice expressing themselves in front of others. By providing a fun, supportive environment—like speaking about a pet rock—youth can take risks, receive positive feedback, and gradually overcome their fears. These exercises strengthen critical life skills such as public speaking, self-assurance, and leadership, which benefit them both inside and outside the classroom.

🎉👏 Big congratulations to our amazing Marlboro County 4-H members! 👏🎉

Michael and Rachel Ridley represented our county at the SC 4-H Engineering Challenge and brought home 1st place in the Junior Bridge Building Competition! 🏆🌉 Even more impressive—their popsicle stick bridge held a whopping 121 pounds! 💪

We’d also like to recognize Bella Schauer, who wasn’t able to compete that day but played an important role in helping the team prepare and design their winning bridge. Your hard work and teamwork made a difference!

We are so proud of these talented young leaders and future engineers—way to go, Marlboro County 4-H! 💚🛠️

Our Valentine-themed meeting yesterday was full of fun and creativity! Members made colorful yarn art with lots of Valentine flair and then burned off some energy playing Gaga Ball.
