What does it mean to be a volunteer? We can’t do it without you! Volunteers are essential to making the Smithsonian Institution traveling exhibit Americans available to the public this fall, just like they were when we hosted the Smithsonian’s Spark! Places of Innovation in 2024. Is it helpful? Yes! Is it meaningful and fun? Absolutely! Here is what one of our favorite volunteers, Jennifer Yates, has to say…
“When I volunteered for the Spark! traveling exhibit in 2024, I started by spending my first day reading every single entry in the exhibit, which was truly inspiring. That initial excitement stuck with me, and I carried it into every conversation I had with visitors who came through. Being able to share that enthusiasm with people made the whole experience feel meaningful. But it wasn't just about the exhibit itself; it was also about the people. Getting to spend time with the other volunteers gave me such a strong sense of community and joy. I left that experience with renewed friendships and a real feeling of pride in what we accomplished together.
I can't wait to be part of this fall's Americans exhibit, and I'd encourage anyone considering volunteering to jump in. You'll learn something new, connect with your neighbors, and be part of something special for our community.”
