Yesterday we participated in the annual Special Olympics Torch Run. We are honored to be Guardians of the Flame year after year. After being passed the torch by Vallejo PD, our team set off on our leg of the relay, which began with a nice shaded run through the Benicia State Recreation Area. We were honored to have Benicia athletes Val and Lucas run with us, as well as other athletes from Solano County - total rockstars!

Last Saturday, May 9th, our Cadets participated in the El Dorado County Sheriff's Office Regional Training Day. Over 161 cadets from agencies all over Northern California came together to receive hands-on training in a variety of real life scenarios.
These types of academy days are invaluable for youth cadets who have future plans to enter a police academy and pursue a career in law enforcement. BPD is proud of our cadets and their advisors for their dedication, hard work and professionalism while representing our department.
More information about the Benicia Police Department Youth Cadet Program is available at www.ci.benicia.ca.us/investigations.

National Police Week occurs every May -- this year it is recognized this week, from May 10-16, 2026.

Established by a joint resolution of Congress in 1962, National Police Week pays special recognition to those law enforcement officers who have lost their lives in the line of duty for the safety and protection of others. Additionally, agencies across the nation use this week to celebrate and show gratitude to law enforcement personnel that are currently dedicated to serving their communities.

Update, 3:40pm - 5/10/26: Ezra has been located.
—————-
Community help requested: We have received several reports of sightings of Ezra around town, but have not been able to locate him and want to ensure he returns home safely.

Though it is not uncommon for this young man to be away from his residence, he usually returns home. At this time, he has yet to return home and we are asking the community to be aware, and contact Benicia PD if you see him.
