American novelist, poet, essayist, environmental activist, cultural critic and farmer Wendell Berry passed away this week; he was 92. Berry was born in Kentucky and lived most of his life there, writing about the relationship between people, land, community, and work. On Friday we bid a fond farewell to Todd Dunkelberg, who wrapped up a 16-year tenure as Deschutes Public Library Director and 27 years with the library system. ❤️Todd began his career as a children’s librarian after graduating from the University of Texas library school. In 1999 he moved to Central Oregon to manage the Redmond Library. He was promoted to Assistant Director in 2002, and was hired as Library Director in 2009.

We wish Todd all the best on his retirement adventures—which will probably include reading a lot of books from the library! 📚

The Red Cross provides about 40% of our nation’s blood and blood components, all from generous volunteer donors. But supply can’t always meet demand because only about 3% of age-eligible people donate blood yearly. Each new donor helps to meet patient needs. ❤️
