Benbrook Middle-High School opened to students in August 2011. The $34 million dollar school was part of the $593.6 million bond package approved by voters in November 2007. It was constructed on 31 acres south of Westpark Elementary School, at 201 Overcrest Drive in Benbrook. The 175,600-square-foot school features

6 academic core spaces, fine arts, life skills/special vocational programs, physical education, media center, administration and support facilities. Shared facilities include a 600-seat auditorium and competition gymnasium, a multi-purpose gymnasium and a cafeteria with a stage. Also on site: parking for 200 cars, a large bus drop-off area, and a hard surface play area with a 4-lane track and playing field. The split-level design of the new school takes full advantage of the steep sloping site and offers an impressive three-story faรงade. The new middle school is also a Collaborative for High Performance Schools (CHPS) Verified facility. One of the key components for CHPS Verified status is the geothermal water source for heating and cooling the entire facility. The principal is Richard Penland.

One of our very own bobcats set a new school record at the state UIL academic meet! ๐Ÿ’š๐Ÿพ

Junior Anabelle Russell set a new school record for highest place at the state 4A UIL academic meet on Monday. Russell placed third in editorial writing and sixth in news writing.

Russell also became the first Bobcat to medal in two events at the state championship!

Seven Bobcats competed in five events and took home two medals. Students and teams that place first through sixth earn medals!

Senior Colin Jarchow tied for sixth place in copy editing but lost in the tiebreaker and placed seventh. Jarchow also placed 11th in the state in spelling.

Seniors Ashley Gevedon and Amy Gonzalez tied for 16th place in the state for literary criticism.

The literary criticism and spelling teams made their first appearances at the state competition. The spelling team placed fifth, and the literary criticism team placed fourth, four points shy of tying for third.

Sophomores Jaxon Anderson and Ella Freeman, and freshman Jack Gentry, also attended the competition, which occurred May 18-19 and was hosted by the University of Texas at Austin.

Thank you so much to Mr. Koenig who is the UIL coordinator. Mr. Peterson who coached journalism, Mr. Spoon who coached spelling, Mr. Veillon who coached literary criticism, and district UIL Coordinator Ms. Maxwell helped keep everyone organized!

From creating safe spaces for students to grow, to building a choir culture rooted in empathy, leadership, and community, Benbrook Middle-High School choir director Emily Saenz is changing lives through music. ๐ŸŽถ

Now, her impact is being recognized on a national stage as a quarterfinalist for the 2027 Grammy Music Educator Award. Out of more than 7,000 nominations nationwide, Saenz advanced into the top 200 educators recognized for excellence in music education and community impact.

Through her choir program, students regularly give back to the community by performing at churches of different faiths during an annual holiday choir tour, visiting and spending time with residents at local nursing homes, and helping restock community food pantries. These experiences help students build empathy, leadership, and a deeper connection to the people around them.

Whether sheโ€™s leading students in performances, organizing service projects, or helping students find confidence through song, Saenz is proving that music education is about far more than music, itโ€™s about belonging.

This Teacher Appreciation Week, we celebrate educators like Dr. Saenz who go beyond the classroom to inspire and shape the next generation every single day. Thank you for the lasting impact you make on Fort Worth ISD students and families!
