CANDIDATE BEMIDJI AT LARGE

Hello, My name is Daniel Jourdain. I am honored to announce my candidacy to run for Councilor At Large for the City of Bemidji, MN. I have been blessed with being the father of 3 wonderful children that have helped me stay grounded as an individual and am very thankful for that.

I graduated from of Red Lake High School and also Leech Lake Tribal College obtaining my Law Enforcement Degree. In 2013 I obtained my Minnesota Peace Officers Certificate from the MN POST BOARD. Currently, I'm striving for my Bachelors Degree in Criminal Justice with Bemidji State University.

I am currently employed at The Minnesota Chippewa Tribe as an Employment Specialist. Other attributes I’ve been involved with is establishing my own small business with my team, Certified High School Sports Official for the Minnesota State High School League as well as youth basketball tournaments around MN and ND.

I consider myself a very strong leader that is passionate about my community and has devoted my spare time to sit in on the Bemidji City Council, Bemidji School Board & Beltrami County Commission meetings. I believe that every citizen in Bemidji has a equal share of interest towards the city and I value all opinions and feedback from everyone. We must continue to work together to make the City less impoverished, more diversely spoken and equal opportunist for all whom wish to divest.

My platform is simple: Public Safety: PUBLIC SAFETY IS MY NUMBER ONE CONCERN. WE NEED LOOK AT DIFFERENT WAYS THAT MAKES THIS COMMUNITY MORE SAFE AND TRANSPARENT. OUR CURRENT INEQUALITIES AND RACIAL DISPARITIES ONLY SET US AFAR FROM REACHING OUR FULL POTENTIAL AS A COMMUNITY. I WILL LOOK FOR WAYS TO HAVE A PROACTIVE APPROACH VS REACTIVE WHICH WILL ONLY LOWER THE RECIDIVISM RATE WITHIN THE CITY. I ALSO WANT TO THANK OUR CURRENT FIRST RESPONDERS, PEACE OFFICERS AND FIRE FIREFIGHTERS WHO ARE QUICK TO RESPOND TO ADVERSE MOMENTS EVERYDAY.

Housing: AS THE CITY OF BEMIDJI GROWS EACH YEAR, IT BRINGS SEVERAL ISSUES TO THE TABLE AND THAT’S HOUSING ISSUES. WHEN A NEW HOUSING DEVELOPMENT IS CONSTRUCTED, I WANT TO MAKE SURE THAT EVERYONE INCLUDING OUR HOMELESS, LOW-INCOME, SINGLE FAMILIES, ELDERLY, AND DISABLED ARE INCLUDED IN THE DECISION MAKING. I WILL ALWAYS ADVOCATE FOR ADEQUATE, SAFE AND AFFORDABLE HOUSING THAT WORKS FOR EVERYONE

Economic Development: MY PLATFORM STRIVES FOR AND SUPPORTS LOCAL BUSINESSES TO ESTABLISH AND DIVEST WITHIN THE CITY. BEING A SMALL BUSINESS OWNER MYSELF, I UNDERSTAND THE HARD WORK IT TAKES TO BECOME SUCCESSFUL. WE MUST FIND MORE SUPPORTIVE WAYS TO HELP WITH OUR ENTREPRENEURS WITHIN THE CITY. OUR SCHOOL DISTRICT, POLICE FORCE, INFRASTRUCTURES AND OTHER SMALL BUSINESSES GENERATE THE FLOW OF OUR DOLLARS THAT HELP BUILD WITHIN THE CITY.

Infrastructure: A LOT OF TIMES OUR CITY FACES HUGE PROBLEMS SUCH AS OUR NEW WATER PLANT CONSTRUCTION. WE WANT OUR WATER TO BE CLEAN AND SAFE WHICH MAY COME WITH A PRICE. RIGHT NOW THE CITY DOES NOT HAVE A PLAN IN PLACE ON HOW TO REPAY FOR THE WATER PLANT AND I WANT TO MAKE SURE THAT THE CITIZENS OF BEMIDJI AREN’T STUCK WITH A HIGHER BILL ON YOUR UTILITY STATEMENT. I WOULD ALSO LIKE FOR THE CITY TO LOOK AT DIFFERENT WAYS ON SAVING MONEY AND THAT’S TO DEVELOP MORE GREENER EFFICIENT TYPES OF ENERGY, THIS WOULD LOWER THE PRICES OF ELECTRIC STATEMENTS AND PUT MORE MONEY INTO THE POCKETS OF OUR HARD WORKING CITIZEN. ALSO, WE MUST CONTINUE TO LOOK AT THE SAFETY OF OUR ROADWAYS AROUND THE CITY OF BEMIDJI ESPECIALLY IN OUR SCHOOL AND HIGH TRAFFIC AREAS.

I believe that once we focus on these 4 foundations that it will make the city of Bemidji a more diverse and successful place. It will bring positive hope and improve moral in the public’s view. If elected, I will continue to bring these ideas to the table and express my leadership views the best way possible.
