Public safety isn’t just a national issue. Many of the laws and decisions that directly affect the safety of our communities are made right here in Illinois.

State lawmakers make decisions involving criminal law, sentencing, policing policies and public safety funding. Here at home, local law enforcement enforces those laws, prosecutors bring criminal cases, and our courts administer justice under Illinois law.

Those decisions have a very real impact here in Boone County.

That’s why who we elect at the state and local level matters.

When you vote this November, know who is on your ballot. Know where they stand on public safety and keeping our communities safe.

November is about Illinois.
November is about Boone County.
November is about what happens here at home.

Boone County Advisory Question: Property Tax Relief

Property taxes are one of the issues we hear about most from Boone County homeowners.

This November, Boone County voters will have an opportunity to make their voices heard through an advisory question on property tax relief.

The question asks:

“Should the Illinois General Assembly pass legislation to cap and lower local property taxes and provide state funding to local governments that agree to reduce property tax levies?”

What does your vote mean?

🗳️ YES — Supports asking the Illinois General Assembly to pursue legislation that would cap and lower local property taxes and provide state funding to local governments that agree to reduce their property tax levies.

🗳️ NO — Opposes that proposed approach and supports leaving the current system in place rather than tying additional state funding to reductions in local property tax levies.

This is an advisory question. A YES vote would not automatically lower anyone’s property tax bill, and a NO vote would not change current law. The results tell lawmakers where Boone County voters stand and whether they want Springfield to pursue this type of property tax relief.

Should increased state funding be tied to property tax relief for local homeowners?

Make your voice heard this November.

Property taxes aren't decided in Washington.

In Illinois, property taxes are local. Your bill is shaped by the taxing districts that serve your property — including school districts, county and township government, municipalities and other local taxing bodies.

But decisions made in Springfield matter, too. State lawmakers set the laws governing Illinois' property tax system, including tax caps, assessments, exemptions and property tax relief.

That's why who we elect at the state and local level matters.

When you vote this November, know who is on your ballot. Know where they stand on property taxes, government spending and protecting taxpayers.

November is about Illinois.
November is about Boone County.
November is about what happens here at home.

A tremendous turnout for the Growth Dimensions Annual Reception!

It was encouraging to hear about the growth, investment and opportunities happening throughout Boone County.

Keynote speaker Robert Lieske with Walmart shared the story behind Walmart’s decision to choose Belvidere for its new distribution center and what this major investment means for our community.

It was also great to see so many Boone County elected officials, community leaders and business leaders together in one room, all invested in the future of our county.

There is a lot of positive momentum in Boone County, and we’re excited about what’s ahead.

Thank you to Growth Dimensions Economic Development for bringing our community together for a great evening!

Meet the Candidate: State Senator Andrew Chesney - District 45

Did you know Boone County is represented by three Illinois State Senators?

Illinois legislative districts often cross county lines, which means residents of the same county may have different representatives in Springfield. It can sometimes be confusing to know who represents you, who to contact, and whose name you’ll see on your ballot.

Over the next few weeks, we’ll help introduce the elected officials and candidates who represent different parts of Boone County.

State Senator Andrew Chesney represents the 45th Senate District, including portions of northern Boone County in the Capron, Poplar Grove and Caledonia areas, along with communities throughout Northwest Illinois.

A lifelong Northwest Illinois resident and small-business owner, Chesney previously served on the Freeport City Council and represented the 89th House District before being elected to the Illinois Senate in 2022.

In Springfield, some of the issues Chesney has focused on include:

* Property tax relief and taxpayer protections
* Supporting law enforcement and first responders
* Protecting Second Amendment rights
* Local control and parental involvement in education
* Government accountability and spending
* Affordable and reliable energy

His legislative record reflects those priorities. For example, he has sponsored property-tax legislation, voter-ID legislation, government-efficiency measures and a package of bills aimed at increasing energy supply and protecting existing power generation.

A year ago, something pretty special came to Boone County. 📚❤️

In August 2025, Dolly Parton’s Imagination Library officially launched in Boone County — giving local children from birth to age five the opportunity to receive a free book in the mail every month.

What began with local organizations, businesses and community members coming together has grown into an investment in Boone County’s youngest residents and their future.

With nearly 2,800 children in Boone County eligible for the program, there is still an opportunity to reach even more families.

We’re grateful to the Boone County Community Foundation, our local school districts, foundations, businesses, service organizations and individual donors who helped bring Dolly Parton’s vision to Boone County and continue supporting it today.

One child. One book each month. A lifelong love of reading. 📖❤️

There are a lot of strong feelings about what is happening nationally.

But this November is also about Illinois — and the decisions being made right here at home.

The people we elect at the state and local level make decisions that affect property taxes, schools, public safety, local development, government spending and accountability.

That’s why it’s important to know who is actually on your ballot, what offices they are running for, and where they stand on the issues affecting our communities.

National politics may dominate the headlines, but there is a lot more on your November ballot.

November is about Illinois.
November is about Boone County.
November is about our future.
