Fireworks, fun, and festivities for Fourth of July! ๐Ÿ‡บ๐Ÿ‡ธ โœจ Do you know when to call 9-1-1?
๐Ÿšจ ONLY call 9-1-1 for life-threatening emergencies, like:
โ€ข Fireworks causing a fire๐Ÿ”ฅ
โ€ข Medical emergencies ๐Ÿฉธ
โ€ข Driving under the influence ๐Ÿš˜
โ€ข Fireworks creating immediate danger โš
Do NOT call 9-1-1 for noise complaints or to report illegal fireworks use alone. Contact your local police non-emergency number. Help us keep 9-1-1 lines clear for TRUE life-threatening emergencies. Stay safe and celebrate smart this Fourth of July!

Keep yourself and those around you safe on, in, and near the water. Drowning can happen in seconds, is often silent, and can happen to anyone in any body of water!

๐Ÿ›ŸAlways wear a Coast Guard approved life jacket; toys, floaties, puddle jumpers, and rafts will not protect weak swimmers.

๐Ÿ‘€ Designate a โ€œWater Watcherโ€ to maintain visual contact on kids in or near the water without distractions or impairments.

๐Ÿšง Maintain physical barriers and alarms around pools and do NOT allow unsupervised kids in the water. If a kid is missing, check the water first.

๐Ÿฉน Take water safety and learn-to-swim courses. Take CPR courses, know the signs of someone in trouble, and how to help.

๐Ÿฆถ Enter water feet first. Avoid jumping on rocks in lakes or rivers, they can be slippery and unstable leading to head injuries.

๐ŸŒŠ Do not fight currents, float downstream feet first until you are able to exit the current or water.

๐Ÿšซ Avoid Alcohol. Swim & Boat Sober.
o The impairing effects of alcohol (and other substances) are enhanced by exposure to sun and heat.
o Boating While Intoxicated (BWI) is dangerous, is enforced, and carries similar penalties to DWI.

โ›ต๏ธ Take a Boater Education class. If you were born on or after September 1, 1993, you must be certified to operate a watercraft/boat with more than 15 horsepower or a sailboat over 14 feet.
o Operate at a safe speed; boats do NOT have brakes.
o Have a passenger lookout in addition to the operator.
o Use the Ignition Safety or Cut-Off Switch.
o Always wear a life jacket and have extra personal flotation devices in adult and child sizes.
o Obey the 50-foot rule.

โ›ˆ Check the Weather. If you see Lightning or hear Thunder, immediately get out of and away from pool, lakes, and all bodies of water. Wait 30-minutes after the last thunder clap before resuming activity.

๐Ÿ‡บ๐Ÿ‡ธ Fourth of July Fireworks: When to Call 911 ๐Ÿ‡บ๐Ÿ‡ธ
๐Ÿšซ Do NOT call 911 for fireworks complaints like:
โ€ข They're loud and I can't sleep.
โ€ข Itโ€™s past 10 PM, and they're still going off.
โ€ข Fireworks are scaring my pets or livestock.
โ€ข Fireworks are banned in my area.
While these issues are annoying and even illegal, they don't rise to the level of an emergency.
โ˜Ž Do call 911 if the fireworks:
โ€ข Injure someone.
โ€ข Start a fire.
โ€ข Are used to start a fire intentionally.
โ€ข Are used to assault someone.
Help us keep the 911 lines open for real emergencies. Remember, fireworks are not an emergency, but fires started by fireworks are!

Skip the backyard boom. The only SAFE way to enjoy fireworks is at a professional show. Sit back, relax, and let the experts light up the sky.
