Hello Tort-a-Lini! This big sulcata was picked up by animal control in San Marcos. His owner was not found, so he is available for adoption. We estimate his age at 12 years. He weighs about 100 lbs. The missing scute on top of his shell is likely a scar from being burned years ago. This is why we don't use heat lamps for heat. He needs no medical intervention at this point. He is in Bandera.

To adopt Tort-a-Lini or any of the tortoises in our care see our website. WWW.texastortoiserescue.com

Everything is bigger in Texas 🦎

The Texas horned lizard is a spiny-bodied reptile. It's the largest and most widely distributed of the 14 species of horned lizards in the western United States and Mexico. Despite their fierce appearance, Texas horned lizards are extremely docile creatures.

Horned lizards are excellent diggers, and can quickly burrow underground to escape threats. Most of their diet consists of ants, beetles, and grasshoppers.

At night, they bury themselves in the sand to sleep. They have the ability to sq**rt an aimed stream of blood from the corners of the eyes and sometimes from their mouth for a distance of over 3 ft (1 m) to defend themselves from predators. It's safe to say they have developed a few ~unique~ strategies to deter predators.
