The rivers, creeks, and streams across Bell County continue to recede, but motorists should remain cautious. Never attempt to drive through water covering a roadway. What may appear to be calm, shallow water can be deeper and moving faster than it looks, creating enough force to sweep a vehicle off the road.

🚧 Turn Around, Don’t Drown. 🚧

Your destination is never worth risking your life. Stay alert, obey barricades, and choose a safer route.

On Saturday, May 16, 2026, the Bell County Sheriff’s Office responded to a residence off Sparta Road following a report of a sexual assault that had just occurred. The suspect was reported to have in his possession a handgun or shotgun.

Responding Deputies located the suspect vehicle in the neighborhood and attempted to conduct a traffic stop. The driver refused to stop, leading Deputies on a pursuit. A Texas Department of Public Safety Trooper joined the pursuit as the suspect continued to evade law enforcement while traveling through Belton, Temple, and into the Heidenheimer area.
The pursuit ended in Heidenheimer after the Highway Patrol utilized a Pursuit Intervention Technique (PIT), disabling the suspect vehicle, a Ford F-150 pickup truck.

The driver was identified as Jared Demetrius White, 55, of Belton. White was transported to Baylor Scott & White Medical Center, where he was evaluated and cleared of injuries related to the pursuit.

The Bell County Sheriff’s Office Criminal Investigations Division continued the investigation and presented information to the Bell County District Attorney’s Office. The following charges were accepted against Jared White:
• Assault Causing Bodily Injury by Impeding Breath or Circulation
• Sexual Assault
• Evading Arrest or Detention with a Vehicle
Justice of the Peace Cliff Coleman issued arrest warrants for the charges. Jared White remains in custody at the Bell County Jail on a combined bond of $500,000.

Today, May 13, 2026 at 12:26 pm a 911 call reporting a major crash on Farm to Market 439 between Wildwood Dr. and Spring Canyon Rd., west of Belton. The Bell County Sheriff’s Office responded to assist the Texas Highway Patrol, along with Belton Police Department, Sparta Valley Fire Department and Belton EMS.

Once on scene it was determined that a Pure Sanitation Services trash truck and a passenger car had collided. The trash truck then struck the Lake Food Mart, going into the building. One driver was transported by ground ambulance to Baylor Scott & White Medical Center in Temple. One driver was pronounced deceased by Justice of the Peace Ted Duffield, at the scene. Occupants of the business had only minor injuries and were not transported by EMS.

Due to the damage to the business, Temple Fire Department’s Technical Rescue responded to the scene.

FM439 remains closed to both east and west bound traffic as the crash scene is cleared and the investigation occurs. Drivers should choose a different route.

The Texas Department of Public Safety-Highway Patrol is the lead in the investigation and further information will be released by them.

Today, we honor the mothers who serve both their families and their communities with strength, compassion, and dedication.

Whether wearing a badge, supporting a loved one behind the badge, or raising the next generation while carrying the weight of public service, mothers play an incredible role in keeping our communities strong and safe.

To the deputies, investigators, dispatchers, jailers, civilian staff, and every mother who sacrifices time, sleep, and holidays in service to others — thank you. Your commitment does not go unnoticed.

The Bell County Sheriff’s Office would also like to recognize the mothers who stand behind our personnel, offering support through long hours, late-night calls, and difficult days. Your strength helps make this profession possible.

Today, we celebrate all mothers and remember those who are no longer with us, but whose love and influence continue to guide us.

From all of us at the Bell County Sheriff’s Office, Happy Mother’s Day.

This week, we recognize and honor the men and women of law enforcement during National Police Week.

Each day, law enforcement professionals across this nation put on the badge and willingly step into difficult, dangerous, and often thankless situations to protect their communities. They respond when others are in crisis, stand between danger and the innocent, and continue serving even when the personal cost is high.

National Police Week is not only a time to recognize those currently serving, but also to remember the officers who made the ultimate sacrifice in the line of duty. Their courage and dedication will never be forgotten. We also recognize the families who stand beside them, supporting their service and sharing in the sacrifices that come with this profession.

The Bell County Sheriff’s Office is proud of the Deputies, Investigators, Corrections Officers, Dispatchers, Civilian Staff, and all public safety partners who work each day to keep our communities safe. Thank you for your professionalism, commitment, and service to others.

Please join us this week in showing appreciation to law enforcement officers everywhere.
