🚛 Trailer Registration in Bell County

Hitting the road with a trailer? Here’s what you need to know:

➡️ Registration is required for all non-farm trailers operating on public highways.
➡️ Requirements vary based on type and weight of the trailer.

🔧 Types of Trailers:
• Manufactured (built by a trailer manufacturer)
• Homemade (built by an individual)

⚖️ Weight Categories:
• Under 4,000 lbs.
• Over 4,000 lbs. (may require a title)

📋 You may be asked to provide:
✔️ Weight Certificate
✔️ Photos of the trailer
✔️ Proof of ownership (MCO, Title, or Bill of Sale depending on the trailer)

🔍 Not sure what type of trailer you have?
Check the trailer tongue for a manufacturer’s name. If you’re unsure, a law enforcement inspection may be required. The Bell County Sheriff’s Office can assist with VIN inspections (VTR-68A).

💡 Good to know:
• Newly assembled trailers must be titled
• A VIN is required for assembled trailers
• Missing paperwork? Manufactured trailers cannot be reclassified as homemade

🛠️ Inspection Update:
As of January 1, 2025, Texas no longer requires safety inspections for non-commercial vehicles. An Inspection Program Replacement Fee is included in registration costs. (Emission requirements still apply in certain counties.)

🚒 Snap-Stats: The State of Volunteer Firefighting 🚒

Volunteer firefighters are the backbone of communities across America—especially in rural areas like ours. Here’s a quick look at the current landscape:

🔥 62% of all firefighters in the U.S. are volunteers
📉 Volunteer numbers have dropped from 884,600 (1983) to 635,100 (2026) — a 25% decrease
📞 Fire service calls have increased 300% over the past few decades
👨‍🚒 34% of volunteers are over the age of 50
👩‍🚒 Women make up 11% of volunteer firefighters

As demand rises and volunteer numbers decline, supporting our local fire departments has never been more important. Whether it’s through volunteering, donations, or simply saying “thank you,” every bit counts.

💬 Consider getting involved—your community needs you!

🏞️🚙 Off-Highway Vehicles in Bell County

Do you own an ATV, UTV, ROV, or other off-highway vehicle? Here’s what you need to know:

While these vehicles are titled through TxDMV, they are not registered like typical vehicles, they are eligible for an Off-Highway Vehicle (OHV) license plate available at your local county tax office.

✔️ OHV plates help keep you in compliance with Texas law
✔️ Required for certain types of roadway operation
✔️ Available right here at your Bell County Vehicle Registration office

Keep in mind—off-highway vehicles are designed primarily for off-road use, and operation on public roads is limited to specific situations, such as certain low-speed roadways or approved areas.
