The sound of children laughing and the sight of old friends and neighbors breaking bread together . . . thank you Dunham Township residents and friends. What a beautiful day.

We will begin making homemade noodles next month and will see you at the Noodle Hut at the Fairground in September.

It was 60° this morning when the charcoal was lit. The chicken is now cooking and it is going to be a beautiful day for a Social. Food will be served beginning at 4:00 pm today. Stop by for some great food, music and entertainment for the children. Sit with us and your neighbors for a while and catch up on old times. And, check out your new pumper (engine). We will see you at 4:00!

The grilling pits are ready. In less than 36 hours, a team of firefighters will start the charcoal and load the racks with chicken. At 4:00 pm on Saturday, we will have delicious grilled chicken! The children can play on the bounce house while you enjoy the live music.

Raffle tickets will be sold along with an ongoing silent auction/country store. The swing, fire pit and grill are being raffled along with the hunting rifle. The homemade quilt (made by a member of our community) and other items will be part of the silent auction.

We are working on getting our brand new firetruck to the social so you can see it. (It won't be placed in service until later because we are having additional items added to the truck by the distributor in McConnelsville. This was less expensive than having those changes made by the manufacturer in Florida.)

Please join us this Saturday, June 13th, between 4:00 pm and 8:00 pm at the firehouse on Veto Road behind Dollar General.

Yesterday we responded to a call on McGill Road for a carbon monoxide detector which had activated.

This is a good time to review what the National Fire Protection Association (NFPA) says about the number of detectors you should have in your home and where they should be located. The NFPA link is https://www.nfpa.org/education-and-research/home-fire-safety/carbon-monoxide. Please look at the link. The basics are . . . one detector outside of each sleeping area and at least one per each floor of your home. Normally, that would be a total of 2 to 4 detectors in the "average home.

Back to the call . . . we responded with 2 EMS personnel on the squad and 3 fire personnel on a pumper. We tested the air in the residence and found no trace of carbon monoxide. Apparently, the detector was malfunctioning due to a low battery or some other issue. We would much rather respond to a "false alarm" than respond to a home or business where there actually was a carbon monoxide problem.

Please take a minute to look at the NFPA link and pay attention to the testing and battery replacement suggestions.

Often called the invisible killer, carbon monoxide is an odorless, colorless gas created when fuels burn incompletely.
