Volunteer Fire Assistance Cost Share Grant Applications are now open! The Kansas Forest Service administers the Volunteer Fire Assistance (VFA) cost-share program with grant funding provided by the US Forest Service. The funding is available to rural or city departments that provide fire protection to rural areas with less than 10,000 people.

We are accepting nominations for the NCRPC Lifetime Public Service Award. This award recognizes individuals or organizations who have made outstanding contributions to the communities and citizens of our region. The next recipient will be honored at the NCRPC biennial gathering on September 24 (more details coming soon).

Nominees must be from one of the following 12 counties: Clay, Cloud, Dickinson, Ellsworth, Jewell, Lincoln, Marshall, Mitchell, Ottawa, Republic, Saline, and Washington.

🎉 Team Spotlight

Today, we’re highlighting Jack Burks, who has been part of the NCRPC team since 2018! Jack serves as a Weatherization Inspector and, over the past 8 years, has traveled countless miles to clients’ homes to conduct inspections and support energy-efficiency efforts across the region.

“It is so rewarding to be part of a team that has such a wide reach to assist people and families in their time of need,” Jack shares.

Two of our staff traveled to Hays today to attend the 2026 Kansas Infrastructure Hub Summit. Executive Director Deb Ohlde participated in a moderated panel, sharing insights on trends and opportunities in our region, and facilitated a regional break out session.
